?? Grant opportunity for nonprofits! Does your organization have a passion for mental health and a creative idea to bring mental health actions and education to your community for Mental Health Action Day on May 16th? MTV is offering grants to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations. This #MentalHealthAction Day, MTV is making grant funding available to empower nonprofit partners to produce innovative activations on the 4th annual Mental Health Action Day, a day dedicated to driving our mental health culture from awareness to action. What You Should Know: MTV is offering grants to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations to activate on Mental Health Action Day: Thursday, May 16th, 2024. ? MTV's goal is to support organizations with grants that can bring to life activations that reach young people directly, with a particular focus on those that reach communities lacking access to mental health resources. While no idea is too big or small, the majority of grants will be $2,500- $7,000 with a maximum of $10,000. Activations that engage their local community to learn and practice A.S.K. (Acknowledge, Support, Keep-In-Touch | asktohelp.com), the new ‘stop, drop and roll’ for emotional support developed in partnership with Active Minds, Inc., a leading youth-focused mental health non-profit, will be given special consideration as we aim to empower people to know how to respond when their friends or loved ones reach out to them for help. For more about A.S.K. check out the website asktohelp.com and social media toolkit. The deadline for submissions is March 3, 2024. We are soooo excited to officially announce that TWLOHA’s 5K is coming back this year—with a twist! We’re calling this the Move For It 5K+. ? Let’s talk details. ?? As a community, we’re aiming to raise $175,000 by May 31st in honor of Mental Health Month. Join us virtually or in-person (Melbourne, FL) on May 25th to fundraise, move, and take action for mental health. Together, we can inspire change—for our communities, for our loved ones, and for ourselves. These funds are critical to helping TWLOHA bring a message of hope and connection to mental health resources for 20,000,000 people this year. Every story, every conversation, every dollar matters when we’re fighting for people to stay alive and find healing. ?? How can you get started? ?? It's Mental Health Awareness Week Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem. Many people are speaking more openly about their own experiences and seeking support. But there are still so many people urgently waiting, not getting the help they need. An estimated 2 million people are on waiting lists for mental health services. Since 2017, the number of young people struggling with their mental health has nearly doubled. People tell us they feel overwhelmed and hopeless, that things will never change. That’s why for Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, we’re launching #NoMindLeftBehind and calling on everyone to raise awareness and vital funds. Together, we can make sure that no mind is left behind. As we continue with Mental Health Awareness Week, it's not something that you pick and run with for 7 days, then put back down....it's an ongoing muscle that you continue to work, elevate and use to support yourself and those around you. It can also impact not just the physical, but mental and financial too. It impacts people at all ages and some need more support than others in various times in their lives. There are lots of resources, tools and sometimes just ringing a friend, meeting for a coffee, taking a walk or just having some time out in your own work/family calendar for yourself. It's important to think about your needs too. So pass the baton on and share with your family, friends, colleagues and communities. ?? https://lnkd.in/eeWA4jr2 https://www.mind.org.uk/ https://lnkd.in/egpW9tge #diversityandinclusion #mentalhealth #financialhealth #wellbeing

We hosted an insightful panel discussion last week between Sarah Kendrick, Clinical Director at Mental Health Innovations and two of our Shout Volunteers Amelia and Chris on the practical steps you can take to start a conversation about suicide. Changing the narrative begins with breaking down the stigma and not being afraid to ask questions, and our panellists shared some thoughtful insights on how their training as Shout Volunteers has helped them have practical conversations with their wider communities too. Top things discussed included: ?? Remembering you don’t have to be an expert. Anyone can help prevent suicide. ?? Talking about suicide doesn’t make it happen. You can never do the wrong thing by asking someone if they are ok and giving them the space they need to be listened to. ?? Understanding that you don’t have to have all the solutions. Just be there to listen and validate their thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it can be hard to know how to start the conversation, but as Shout volunteer Chris said, sometimes you can help someone feel at ease to open up by taking a walk side by side to create comfort in a way that sitting down face to face might not. Our mental health text service Shout offers free, confidential, anonymous support over text, giving people the space they need to talk in a way that feels comfortable to them. We need volunteers like you to help support more people who are struggling to cope with their mental health. We have more information on what’s involved in volunteering on our Shout website. As many of you know, this week is Mental Health Awareness Week?? At Wards it’s important to us to look after the wellbeing of our colleagues. That’s why our people have 24/7 confidential access to trained therapists, plus selected financial and legal advice. When life is busy, it can be tricky finding time for wellbeing-boosting activities. ??♂? Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 With this years' theme being focused around "Movemenet" I'm reminded of the profound impact that human connection can have on our mental well-being. In a world where the pace of life often seems to accelerate, taking the time to check in on others is more important than ever! Whether it's a simple text message, a phone call, or a socially distanced walk, reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues can make a world of difference. Movement isn't just about physical activity; it's also about the movement of compassion, empathy, and understanding. By checking in on others, we create a ripple effect of kindness and support that can uplift and inspire those around us. This Mental Health Awareness Week, let's make a commitment to prioritise mental well-being and foster a culture of care and compassion. Let's embrace the power of movement – both physical and emotional – to create positive change in our communities and workplaces. Remember, a simple gesture of kindness can have a profound impact on someone's day. Let's check in on each other, listen without judgment, and offer support when needed. Together, we can create a more compassionate and inclusive world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. #MomentsForMovement

This week is Mental Health Awareness week in the UK, a topic that is very important to me. The theme this year is “Movement: moving more for your mental health” – if I was to list some top-tips with the theme of mental health in mind, using movement as medicine would be right up there. My others would be: - Sometimes you don’t need to fix, you just need to listen. - Use non-judgemental language when talking – the term “commit suicide” for example implies fault, which is incredibly unhelpful and inaccurate. - Treat yourself as you would treat a friend. For more on this, check out Kristin Neff’s Ted Talk on self-compassion. - There is no shame in struggling, but there’s huge bravery in talking about it. ? - Most importantly be kind, curious and patient, with yourself and others. https://lnkd.in/eYmEYu-h #mentalhealth #MHAW2024 #MoveForMentalHealth
