This course/certification is still to the day of the best trainings I have ever completed. As an athletic trainer it is VITAL for tools of better listening and ways to help athletes. As a BDR it is JUST as vital for really hearing and understanding healthcare organizations needs/pain points. It's a common misconception... that asking a person about suicide can “put the idea in their mind.” The Mental Health First Aid curriculum tells us this is not true. Rather than inspiring suicide, asking a person if they’re considering suicide reassures them that there’s someone who cares. During the course, participants practice saying it out loud: Are you thinking about killing yourself? It doesn't feel good at first but it's a necessary practice in case you need to ask a loved one.
