What advice would you give to a new product manager? I am working on an update of this blog post for the new decade: https://lnkd.in/gPcDqqj Tell me one thing that you think is most important in today's challenging environment. I am curious to know what you think.

For products that already exist, get to know your product, why it was created in the first place, and what the creators were envisioning as the problem they wanted to solve. This will help you learn the vision of the product quickly and help you understand what direction you are headed. This helps with another crucial step and that is to get to know your stakeholders and key audience members from the client side. I promise you, there was a customer or two involved in the ideation of your product!

You don’t have to do everything, you need to make sure everything gets done. Practice open and effective communication. Know your customers and know your product (use it yourself!). Teach others (especially Sales) about Product - and ask questions of them - to keep expectations aligned.

Take the time up front to gain a detailed understanding of the customers and of all aspects of the problem you are trying to solve for them, including the relative priority of the different facets of the problem. Test this understanding with some perspective customers. Then sequence the product roadmap to address the most significant pieces of the problem first, so even early releases provide value to the customers.

Add value.? A customer will only stay with a low price for only so long if quality is lacking and service is terrible.? To add value, understand internal and external operations, resolve pinch points, reduce cost, drive for better service solutions and automation.? Don't over-extend or over-promise.? A customer would rather see your plan to ramp up instead of watch your team (and theirs) crash and burn.? ?

Product Manager is a person with multifunction task.. but it should not be mistaken as daily task. Like: 1. Customer Support in crucial time- Not to be considered as Helpdesk 2. Justification to Business Products: Is not liable for increase in Business Number (post prod launch) 3. CEO of the product: Does not have any rights on that product 4. Innovation is a key ingredient: Sometime customisation also leads to big innovation (if it's generic) 5. Functioning of product has to be obscure: Process for execution should be exhibited. 6. Impact is to identified: It should be handled subtly by respective team 7. Product team does not entertain project: Every product was once a project.

Be laser focused on the problem you are trying to help solve for your customers. Ask yourself, “what is the job-to-be-done here?” Worry less about the competition and more about getting to the root cause of your customers’ pain. When you feel you have an insight, launch a solution quickly, using the minimum amount required to test if your insight is worthwhile and something that can scale. If you uncover you’re on to something, galvanize individuals across the company to help you scale.

For both (all) parties to know what Industry, Industry niche and product application they are talking about... and have some expertise in that field. To understand each others interruption of "scale" and the ability to "scale". Just a thought.

Learn the customer pain points through observations, build product iterations, and get feedback. Define success metrics and measure the outcome. Don't focus only on delivery but on measuring the outcome.
