Lesson in Leadership: I teach students in Health Administration to view errors as a system issue. Placing the blame on individuals is not the way to develop solid, professional teams. Example, an RN some years back gave the incorrect medication to a patient, which resulted in a negative reaction. Rx forwarded from pharmacy, reviewed by a pharmacist, and sent on the transport to the Nurse on the floor! Thank God nothing happened significant. Looked like the right pill to this young lady with 18 other patients! Whose fault? Ours! Look around us, and we regularly see similar things in sports! A young freshman player on a major university team, playing the number 1 team in the nation missed two free throws that would have won the game. He was 18 years old in a gym with 20 thousand screaming fans, watched by many on television, and he missed! They lost that game, but did those two free throws really mean the difference? How many other shots were missed! What did they lose? The team lost! As usual there were lots of armchair QBs and Coaches questioning most everything. After the loss to Ohio State, Marcus Freeman said some things noteworthy! "This loss is on me. I have to prepare my young men, and they played their hearts out!" “The outlook of Notre Dame football is extremely high.”? “As long as the people in that locker room that come back, understand what it takes, the work that these guys put in, there’s a lot of success in the future.” I learned the hard way coming up, that mistakes happen, and should be considered OUR mistakes! Now, some will indicate that individuals do make egregious mistakes. That's true but use times when they fail as an opportunity to learn and grow. Now, if they just can't do the work, Collins reminds us to get the right people on the bus and in the right seats. And to get the wrong ones off at the nearest stop! Marcus Freeman is a true leader. The 2025 Coachella Valley Invitational (CVI) will bring together a record 20 professional men’s and women’s teams for the largest-ever preseason event in North American professional soccer history it was announced by event developers and operators AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company. With the support of MLS and NWSL, the CVI will host players, coaches and management from each of the clubs who will participate in preseason matches, training sessions and organizational meetings at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. The initial schedule of all 26 mens and womens matches (listed below) is highlighted by appearances from 2024 MLS Cup Finalists LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls, the first open to the public match played by the MLS’ newest team San Diego FC and the CVI debut of NWSL clubs Houston Dash and Seattle Reign FC. In addition to providing each of the participating MLS and NWSL teams the opportunity to prepare for their upcoming 2025 seasons in optimum weather at world class facilities, CVI will also give fans unprecedented access to watch some of MLS’s and NWSL’s most decorated and popular players and teams in an intimate setting, along with unique fan experiences. In 2011, Dietrich Mateschitz, the owner of the Red Bull clubs, looking for a new coach for Red Bull Salzburg. He wanted Ralf Rangnick.
