BCI Pioneers Coalition的动态

?? Huge congratulations to BCI Pioneers Coalition member Phillip McKenzie on his gold medal victory at the 2024 Cybathlon! As the pilot for PittCrew, a team from the University of Pittsburgh’s Rehab Neural Engineering Labs, Phill achieved a perfect score in the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Race, showcasing the transformative potential of intracortical brain implant technology. Competing remotely, Phill completed challenging virtual tasks—navigating a wheelchair, unlocking a door, and even holding a cup steady under an ice machine—all using only his brain signals. His performance was a testament to the power of BCI technology and the incredible human determination that drives innovation forward. PittCrew was the only team in the race using implanted BCI technology, setting them apart in a competition where most relied on EEG. Their victory highlights not only the cutting-edge advancements in the field but also the critical role of collaboration between researchers and end-users like Phill. We couldn’t be prouder of Phill and his contributions to advancing BCI technology. Here’s to many more milestones ahead! ?? In an amazing and stunning performance at CYBATHLON 2024, the University of Pittsburgh's Rehab Neural Engineering Labs (RNEL) team, PittCrew, took gold in the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Race. Competing remotely, pilot Phillip, who is paralyzed from the neck down, achieved a perfect score, showcasing groundbreaking brain implant technology that translates his thoughts into precise virtual reality actions. The tasks, which ranged from navigating a wheelchair through obstacles to stabilizing a cup under an ice machine, tested control, precision and composure under pressure. "The ice machine task was very tricky... Phill had to have a very calm brain to keep the cup still," said team manager Ceci Verbaarschot. PittCrew stood out as the only team using brain implant technology, a testament to RNEL's cutting-edge research and commitment to advancing assistive technology. "This was a chance for Phill to shine and demonstrate the incredible potential of this technology," added Verbaarschot. Congratulations to PittCrew for pushing the boundaries and inspiring us all!
