As part of our partnership with i5 Space, the Lab is sponsoring 100 students from 9 universities to launch and track L1 "hobby" rockets with event-based (aka neuromorphic) cameras, and seismic sensors. Through this activity students get hands on experience with #space domain awareness related hardware, software, data and concepts related to space launch. U of A’s BLINC Lab recently showcased an AI-powered prosthetic arm at Cybathlon 2024, an international competition for assistive technologies. The “Bento Arm” uses machine learning to interpret muscle signals and electrical activity, enabling intuitive control for users. The paper, entitled "Key Parameters for Performance and Resilience Modeling of 3D Time-of-Flight Cameras Under Consideration of Signal-to-Noise Ratio and Phase Noise Wiggling" explores the performance and resilience of 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras. The focal point of our study is the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and the phenomenon of "Phase Noise Wiggling," with the objective of analysing how these parameters influence the accuracy and reliability of depth measurements. Utilising sophisticated models, we assess the impact of noise and phase noise on camera performance and proffer strategies to bolster the resilience of devices under diverse environmental conditions. The results of this paper emerged as part of the research conducted by Niklas K?hler & Marcel Geis.
