As a daughter of immigrants, being the first in my family to navigate the education system, higher ed and the white collar work force made me super adaptable to changing environments. As being the only women of color in the room became a common thing, and my mentors along the way made that path so much smoother for me. People like Professor Megan Ybarra, Professor Jonneke Koomen, Dr. Maria Teresa Chavez-Haroldson, Ph.D., Shelli Romero, MPA, OPMCP, Reyna Lopez and Susan Boreliz are influential people that helped me see the power in being rooted in my culture and not be afraid to lead. Here are some my favorite leadership lessons that have been top of mind for me recently: 1. Servant leadership is about leading with the heart and working with people that bring you joy 2. Overcoming hurdles makes you more stronger and capable 3. Challenges don’t define us but how we respond, does 4. Be innovative in your approach, steadfast in your values? Raising leaders is something I am very passionate about. About a month ago, I became super clear about the types of leaders I wanted to work with. I wanted to partner with women of impact. Women who are starting maternity homes. Women who are serving others who have experienced domestic violence. Women who are serving in their local schools. Women serving the homeless and at food banks. Women running for city council! The women I'm working with have God-sized vision outside of themselves. And to do that, they need support. Someone to pour into them. That's why I'm teaching the Radiant Leadership Academy this August. I want to pour back into these women. Raise up leaders. Give them the skills and tools they need to accomplish what God has in store for them. Their leadership isn't about them but the people they are called to serve. I'm just honored I can be a part of it. So, if you have something inside of you, bigger than yourself, let's talk about how Radiant Leadership Academy is right for you.
