???Career-connected learning is mutually beneficial to learners, workers and employers, writes the Charles Koch Foundation. But what does career-connected learning really mean? It’s more than a single annual career fair or just asking students what they want to be when they grow up. ?? Catalyze, one of the nation’s largest communities of practice focused on career-connected learning, defines it as “a catalyst that can prepare learners to thrive in the modern world of work — first, by bridging the gap between student interest and industry need, and second, by introducing young people to fulfilling pathways that connect passion to career success.” Read the full piece at the link in the comments. ?? #careerconnectedlearning #k12education #careereducation #professionaldevelopment

Over 95% of TRIO students don’t receive the financial support they need. This often forces advisors to cancel career fairs or cut emergency funds. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Many of your alumni, now thriving in their careers, are eager to give back—they just need a nudge. Here’s how to engage them: 1. Alumni-led workshops: Host workshops where alumni guide students through the scholarship application process, offering tips and insights to strengthen applications. 2. Alumni-sourced scholarships: Encourage alumni to crowdsource scholarships for emergencies like living expenses. Create fun challenges like “Raise $5,000 in 30 days” to keep them engaged. 3. Alumni-sponsored career days: Alumni can sponsor workplace tours, industry conferences, and job shadowing opportunities, bridging the gap between students’ dreams and reality. By engaging alumni, you can break financial barriers and help your students succeed. Reach out and start making a difference today.

The decision of what you want to do for the rest of your life is difficult at any age, especially in high school. You really have no idea what is all out there to explore, no one does. We can’t expect the schools to know every possible career for our children. That is why this partnership between the schools, businesses, and government is so important. Businesses need people. We need to be there to inform our future generations what all is out there. To be there to support the schools by giving the students information to make a more educated decision on their future. So many people go off to college not knowing what they want to do or finish college, not using the degree they went for. This program can help with that. It helps give the students more information about the careers they are interested in and ones that may not have known were an option. It provides them the ability to job shadowing, internships, Co-op’s.?These experiences are so valuable. It can either solidify what they want to do or show that path is not for them. Both are great outcomes! Whether they need a 2yr, 4yr, a Master’s degree for their career, they learn on the job, or other post-secondary education. All these take time and money, and this program can help them not waste either. Businesses need to support this program, for the future of our children and our businesses.

? Had a great time at Making Waves Academy in Richmond, CA, speaking with 9th-12th graders about their future academic and career goals during the 2024 Fall Career Fair! ?? Sabrina Raphael, MBA, PMP, discussed topics that included: ?? How to land a first job ?? Managing work and college simultaneously ?? Breaking into industries like fashion, game design, and more Advice and actionable next steps with students who are beginning to think about their futures and career paths. It's rewarding to work with such a range of individuals, from junior high students to mid-career professionals. ???Mentorship has proven benefits: Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class. Moreover, 58% of young people say their mentor has supported their mental health, and mentored youth are 130% more likely to hold leadership positions. Let’s continue empowering the next generation! #CareerFair2024 #MentorshipMatters #FutureLeader #NeverTooLate #CareerDevelopment #CollegeAndCareer #CommunityImpact #GivingBack
