The City of Key West is trying to figure out what to do with Duval Street. You might think it's working just fine as it is, but the City of Key West is going to have a workshop next Wednesday to get public input about how to change Duval Street. This has been talked about for a long time here in the City of Key West. I remember probably about 10 years ago seeing a very futuristic mock-up of what Duval Street might look like. Just two years ago even they hired this firm and so to move forward and now two years later it hasn't really done anything. So next Wednesday you can go and share your input you can listen to see what people are thinking about but what they want to do is change Duval Street from one side of the street where the building ends and meets the sidewalk to the other side. So that would affect all things on Duval Street such as drainage, lighting, the way that the cars move up and down the street, landscaping, deliveries, all sorts of things. So will this ever happen? They've been talking about it for a long time. It seems like there's funding there, there's federal grants that are in place, and the City of Key West apparently has money pouring out of their coffers that they're willing to spend some money. So this should be interesting to see what happens here. Every small and emerging community should be prioritizing redevelopment like this. For one these buildings offer character but mainly the average building in a small little town has been neglected for years. I am surprised at how poorly maintained many of these buildings are even as owners claim pride and historical value. If you want a walkable urban village, open to 10-20 acres of suitably zoned land to buy either from the State Government or private or partner with suitable partners near this station, as proven "Placemaker" over the last 50 years, I have put in place communities—even setting aside between 30% and 50% for affordable housing with no mandatory requirements. "Speed to market "is the market opportunity for CLT advanced modular construction. .Our "Thrive Alliance" Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) in Australia and Internationally is made from renewable plantation forest trees. CLT=stored carbon capacity is up to 40,000 "residential grade" midrise apartments per year, targeting the "Baby Boomers" and "Essential Workers ", including social housing on a scale including Regional Australia, built in up to 75% less time than current custom construction methods, in excellent designs, detailing and finishes with almost zero waste of valuable building materials. https://lnkd.in/gWyWuHD

Our cities are built of neighborhoods. And our neighborhoods were built with a hundred little things (benches, bike lanes, parks, sidewalks, light posts, flower gardens, cafes, street vendors, etc.). What would happen if we took our dreams to rebuild a better neighborhood and combined it with our ability to do little things? Maybe we could build a better block.
