The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) makes it hard for certain nonprofits, especially those that don’t “kiss the ring” or play into certain expectations, to access their donated food supplies. Despite being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, if you don’t align with the corporate culture or other unspoken expectations, GBFB appears to put extra hurdles in the way. Wrigcoll, as a Black-led nonprofit, faces unique challenges in this system. GBFB's practices often demand multiple checkpoints and bureaucracy for groups like ours to access resources, which can seem exclusionary or biased. Some organizations, often those with longstanding relationships or those led by individuals fitting a particular profile, seem to have smoother, less scrutinized access to GBFB’s donations. The requirement of extensive vetting, checklists, or other procedural hoops, even for something as essential as food donations, raises serious questions about who really benefits from these resources. By comparison, White-led nonprofits or those with corporate backing often get preferential treatment, potentially bypassing many of the bureaucratic requirements imposed on Wrigcoll and similar groups. Well, it's finally here! From a simple idea I had in the early hours of a sleepless night, to something that lives and breathes - The Fortus Foundation is now up and running! It's core purpose is to make grants and donations to small local charities and community groups in the communities we serve, and my colleague Matty Lewis is doing a superb job in not only engaging with charities and community groups to raise awareness of it's existence, but also engaging with local businesses to get them board with our #giveone campaign. What's the #giveone campaign I hear you ask! Well, very simply, we're bringing together a growing group of like minded business owners who all want to give something back to the communities that they make their living from, by becoming a 1%er. How? Easy, they're simply donating 1% of previous years profit (either in a lump sum or via monthly direct debit) into The Fortus Foundation, with the guarantee that 100% of their annual donations are paid out to those in need - and there's more - because they even get to know exactly where those funds have gone and what projects they've funded! I bloody love community hubs. Their essential role in community life is so often underappreciated. We tend to think about all the activities they run, but not what they help achieve. ?? Yeehaw! EQ Resources Saddles Up for the Mt Carbine Rodeo! ?? EQ Resources was excited to be part of the action at this year’s Mt Carbine Bull & Bronc Ride! Since its establishment in 2000 by local residents and businesses, the Mt Carbine #Rodeo Association has been a driving force in promoting #tourism and raising funds for the #community. As a voluntary, non-profit organization, their mission is to maintain and upgrade the rodeo grounds, so that other #charities can continue using the facilities for #fundraising events. This annual rodeo doesn’t just deliver thrilling entertainment—it has a lasting impact on our community. From hosting meaningful initiatives like the Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer and the Cardiac Challenge to providing incredible sponsorships, like supporting Josh Snell’s journey to represent our local community at the International Miniature Bullriding World Finals in the USA, this event is important to community growth.
