With Starliner's continued problems on the ISS, Boeing loses, SpaceX wins, but ultimately human spaceflight suffers from a lack of reliable human spaceflight transportation. Multiple transportation systems are a sign of a healthy spacefaring species. Too few means of transportation can halt programs and delay progress. NASA needs multiple human spaceflight providers and dissimilar redundancy to ensure it avoids the mistakes of the past. Watch to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eqK-FQum

The "learning period" for US commercial human spaceflight regulations is set to expire January 1, 2025. Will it be extended, should it be extended, and what regulations should we expect from the FAA? I argue the moratorium is likely to be extended, but we should still think ahead to when the FAA is working with Congress and the commercial spaceflight industry to regulate spaceflight participants and commercial crew on commercial spaceflight vehicles. As commercial spaceflight opportunities increase in volume, a wider range of non-traditional astronauts will engage in spaceflight activities that have only ever been performed by professional astronauts. This includes living and working for a prolonged period in a microgravity environment in an orbiting space station or on the surface of a celestial body with the possibility of engaging in extravehicular activities (i.e. spacewalks). Human spaceflight support requires an understanding of hyperbaric and hypobaric medicine and barometric factors have contributed to a number of spaceflight events that resulted in lessons learned through either a near miss or a catastrophic event. As commercial companies develop space suits, perform EVAs on their missions, and build space stations, understanding the historical lessons learned and looking towards the future opportunities is vital in creating safe industry practices. Curiosity's Cousins: Meet the Rover Fleet of the Canadian Space Agency. This article from the The Atlantic is worth remembering! It highlights the impressive range of vehicles in the Canadian Space Agency's rover fleet. These vehicles are designed to work independently or function as aides for astronauts, with some of them even capable of transporting astronauts across lunar or Martian landscapes. Among the fleet is the SL-Commander, a golf cart-esque rover that can drive autonomously. It's fascinating to see the variety of designs and functions within the Canadian Space Agency's rover fleet.
