According to the latest SF Study by Stanford, out of 524 SFs that concluded their search in the USA/Canada, 328 made an acquisition (63%) while 196 did not (37%), failing in their quest for the perfect deal. There was very little in the way of feedback/suggestions I could provide this dude! His head is screwed on, the vision is clear, it's all just down to execution now. I spoke with a founder who would like to remain anonymous at the idea stage for a really impressive AI-powered offering for Physiotherapists. A great discussion talking about the harsh realities of wanting to sell into the private sector vs the public, developing an MVP, getting user feedback and fundraising. Great guy, very ambitious and I have no doubt that when we next speak he will be well on track with his concept. I will share more info with the world as and when I am allowed! ?? 3?? And finally, Lee Ashby and Saskia Hill of Deli were an absolute delight to speak with. Deli is a startup that provides a tech-enabled debt collection service for property managers and landlords. They aim to solve the problem of delayed rent collection and offer support to tenants in setting up payment plans. In this call, Deli wanted feedback on their messaging and go-to-market strategy, as well as advice on fundraising and engaging potential pilot customers. They also discussed the challenges of targeting the right individuals within businesses and navigating the fragmented property market. Additionally, Deli sought guidance on whether to focus on building traction and generating revenue or preparing for investment, and how to refine their messaging to attract potential customers and investors. ????One to watch my investor friends! ?? This year Small Change expanded its team … radically. You may have read about it. We’re 10 weeks in now and have developed a satisfying work rhythm, supporting each other as Small Change gets busier. Julian and Mitch are now managing the platform technology in house. Mitch is the coder and Julian the strategist. Rich, Jake and I are focused on meeting with and onboarding new projects. Derek is building our deal flow, meeting with developers early on to explain how our platform works. And Jake has taken over the bookkeeping and budgeting. Farewill, a U.K.-based end-of-life services provider that offers online tools for writing wills, organizing probate, and arranging cremation, has been acquired by funeral service provider Dignity in an all-shares deal valuing the startup at ￡12.9 million ($16.8 million). The deal is a classic case of an established legacy incumbent chasing growth by buying a younger digital upstart, and is designed to help Dignity gain a larger portion of a death care services market that’s expected to reach $190 billion by the end of the decade. "Fundraising is a numbers game" is very short-sighted advice... ? Fundraising is also largely a network game. ? I once was on a call ?? with a co-investor that was leading the round of a particular startup we were discussing. I asked this investor how this funding round was going to come together besides their lead investor check. The investor mentioned to me, “????’???? ?????? ?? ???????????? ????-???????????????? ?????????????? ???????? ???? ???????????????????? ????-???????????? ????????. ????’???? ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????? ?????? ???? ???????? ???? ????????. ?????????? ???? ?????? ???????????????? ???????? ???? ?????? ????????, ???? ??????’?? ???????????????????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????? ?????????? ??????.” WOW. This investor holds undue influence in the network in its space. Get one, get several more. But, here's the thing... Founders wouldn't know that insight from a list of investors and contact information.... ?????? ????????????????: ?? “What investors hold different tiers of influence compared to others?” If you want to know how to get closer to this answer, a starting place is asking the investor who some of their co-investors are. ?? ? Where there are networks, there are parties holding undue levels of influence. Discover them.
