Quick update to my post on creating a free, open source test automation project for everyone to work on and showcase to their (prospective) employers. This hands-on training deepened my skills in Cypress automation, enhancing my approach to web and UI testing. Here’s a quick overview of what I covered: ?? When I learned Cypress a few months ago, I created a portfolio with the basics I had. It was a bit of an interesting process, given that I didn't have extensive knowledge about programming and Cypress, but like everything in life, you learn! I took on the task of refactoring that same repository that I had created months ago with the same Test Cases that I already had, and putting into practice what I learned along the way, also with the help of Cypress experts who made me gain more knowledge and implement some of the best practices in this automation framework. Although I understand that the tests should be independent, currently the environment in which I did the project is public and I don't have direct control over it. This implies that I can't reset or prepare specific data before each test, so I have implemented some pre and post-steps to ensure that some complex E2E flows are in the necessary state to be completed, and not leave the creation of all the data on the web. Apart from having different types of suites and websites, I integrated this portfolio with GitHub Actions with CI pipeline, Mochawesome reporter with a notification system, where the test results are sent through Slack, which is triggered for each commit pushed to the main branch, running all the tests of the project. A very enriching experience, since I was able to learn and integrate different processes and help give visibility on failed/passed tests, which can be helpful for an entire development team. I am pleased to announce that I have successfully completed the Cypress with TypeScript course from TestAutomationU by Applitools, delivered by the expert Filip Hric. This comprehensive course has provided me with a deeper understanding of integrating TypeScript within the Cypress testing framework, enhancing my testing skills and efficiency. During the course, I gained a solid understanding of TypeScript types and how they can enhance the testing process. I also delved into the TypeScript compiler and learned how to write tests and custom commands using TypeScript. A key takeaway was how to reuse types from the source application, which allows for cleaner and more maintainable tests. Additionally, I explored how utility types can be applied in custom commands to make the code more flexible and efficient. By utilizing the CLI to check types and integrating TypeScript for visual testing, I have gained valuable insights into how TypeScript can elevate the reliability of end-to-end testing. Significance of API Testing and how it improves the quality of a software under test. Learn to use Rest Assured to perform API Testing. ?? Goal: To learn how to use Rest Assured for API testing. ? Things learned: - Creating own API server: Learned how to create a server on my own using npm package "json-server" to compose personal web APIs. - Creating API endpoints: Learned to create API routes/endpoints/paths using json-server package to respond to http requests to the server. - What is db.json file: db.json file is a json file that json-server uses to store json data, which can be updated through http requests made to the API endpoints of the server. - Git integration in Eclipse IDE: Learned how to integrated my GitHub repository to the Eclipse IDE to read and write my remote repository using Eclipse IDE. ?
