PROJECT | MEGASHUTTLE ? The focus in the MegaPark Barakaldo Mall playground is on creating an environment that connects emotionally with families and brings dynamism to the space. After an exhaustive study of the environment and the attractions of the mall, it was proposed to create places of proximity, familiar and welcoming for visitors. ? In this context, Megashuttle was designed, a children's area that becomes a central point of attraction in the shopping centre's square. This area not only seeks to attract families from the neighbourhood, but also establishes itself as a visual and experiential landmark, visible from any point in the mall. ? Megashuttle is more than just a play structure; it is an invitation to adventure and exploration. Children are challenged to climb from the base of our rocket, ascend the internal nets and reach the top, where they can observe everything from above, emulating true space adventurers. This design not only stimulates physical activity and motor development, but also nurtures children's imagination and creativity. ? The concepts of "go to the top" and "reach for the stars" are intrinsically embedded in Megashuttle's design. Each stage of the ascent is designed to motivate children to overcome challenges and reach new heights, both literally and figuratively. The escape tunnel at the top offers an exciting and rapid descent route, completing the spatial experience and leaving a lasting impression. ? In today’s rapidly urbanizing world, where development timelines can stretch over months or even years, the concept of "interim parks" offers a refreshing solution for cities and communities. Instead of leaving buildings shuttered or lots vacant while awaiting redevelopment, forward-thinking developers are embracing a new strategy: transforming these dormant sites into vibrant, temporary public parks that enhance the urban realm and bring value to the community. Landworks Studio has been working in this capacity for several years, with projects across Taichung, Taiwan led by Pao Huei Development, that demonstrate how thoughtful design can turn transitional spaces into valuable community resources. What are your thoughts on interim parks? Would you like to see more of these transitional spaces in your community? #urbandesign #construction #development #landscapearchitecture #publicparks

????Designing the perfect space is an art in which every detail matters. In our new residential complex Lakeside11, we aimed to create more than just a place to live; we aspired to craft a genuine haven for a comfortable life. ????With meticulous attention to detail, we have transformed the stylobates into extraordinary vacation spots. The alley connecting Stage 1 and Stage 2 will be more than a mere pedestrian path; it will be a genuine promenade. A fountain and children's activities will be located here. ????Our stylobates are divided into thematic areas: spaces where you can unwind and revel in nature; zones for children where kids can play and develop; and spaces where new acquaintances are forged, and connections are established in a cozy environment. ????Excellent lighting is a crucial design element for us, enabling you to enjoy strolls and relaxation at any time of the day or evening.? We aspire to create not just a residential complex but a cohesive community, where each day unfolds with new impressions and the joy of interaction. ?#RRG?#RRGRealEstateGroup?#RealEstateDevelopment?#Bucharest?#BucharestRealEstate?#Innovation?#DesignExcellence?#Technicalsolutions #Lakeside11

I recently visited the Canary Wharf Winter Lights 2025! I went in with high hopes, drawn in by the promise of a mesmerising transformation, but as I wandered through the installations, I found myself feeling conflicted. While there were moments of creativity and intrigue, some displays felt underwhelming—falling short of the spectacle the marketing had promised. It left me wondering about the balance between bold ambition and thoughtful execution. And yet, as I walked through the glowing sculptures and playful light displays, I couldn’t help but appreciate the intent behind it. Events like this highlight the potential of placemaking and landscape architecture to reimagine spaces like Canary Wharf. A district so often defined by its corporate energy suddenly felt softer, more playful, and more human. Even if just for a short time, it became a place to linger, to connect, and to see the familiar in a new way. This is what placemaking is all about. It’s not always about perfection; it’s about experimentation, collaboration, and finding ways to make spaces more engaging and meaningful. For me, Winter Lights reinforced just how much potential public spaces hold—not just to serve functional needs but to foster curiosity, playfulness, and connection. What stood out most was the focus on play. These installations invited people to slow down, explore, and engage with their surroundings in ways they might not otherwise. For a space like Canary Wharf, designed for efficiency and productivity, this felt transformative. It reminded me how important it is, as designers, to create opportunities for joy and wonder in our urban environments—not just occasionally but as a fundamental part of how we shape cities. As I left, I was struck by two thoughts: gratitude for the ambition and creativity that brought Winter Lights to life, and hope for how events like this could evolve. There’s so much potential to push these ideas further, to refine and reimagine how we can unlock the magic of our urban spaces. #WinterLights2025 #canarywharf #LandscapeArchitecture #Placemaking #UrbanDesign #DesignForPlay #publicart #stantec #landscapeinstitute Canary Wharf Group

The introduction of cohesive wayfinding and placemaking elements such as public art, pavement graphics, banners, and interpretive elements throughout main streets and other public places can support tourism and local businesses by drawing people to the area and helping them access local destinations. Placemaking can also create a sense of arrival, reflect a municipal brand, and convey community character. Entro recently worked with the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area (BIA) to support their mandate of promoting, beautifying, and enhancing the urban experience by developing a “Wayfinding Framework for Strategic Placemaking” planning report, which identifies strategic goals and milestones for these initiatives. Learn more about how these strategic recommendations enhance navigability, support tourism, and help secure funding: https://ow.ly/hH2650T1lJP #experientialdesign #design #placemaking #wayfinding #builtenvironment

Thank you EIT Urban Mobility - Urban Mobility Explained (UMX) for including Parkly in the list of innovative companies for tactical urbanism. Parkly stems of its founders experience in the field of urban experiments and placemaking - the tactical urban actions are an impactful way to accelerate positive urban change - and set direction for the future. "We often underestimate the power of fast, visible actions - but in reality these changes, for example street parklets, square projects and pocket parks lets us already experience the improvement and its effects. A well planned tactical urbanism project is always a start of something bigger, and enables planners to make it an interactive process instead of a top down project." says P?ivi Raivio, co-founder of Parkly "Parkly is designed so, that it allows maximum flexibility and many ways of use - an important factor for tactical projects in which might change location or arrangement over time. We created Parkly to make it as easy as possible to create positive urban change - but instead of too light and too temporary, the furniture is built to last - and evolve over time. The circular design is one of its kind." Daniel Bumann, co-founder and head of product design. Who wouldn't like to live in a city designed by kids?! Play and discovery would be integrated in all aspects of urban life, colors would be highly important, accesibility and safety would be top priorities and almost natural outcomes and well... it would be fun! Interesting quotes from the article: "Children are natural empathic designers who instinctively seek environments that provide safety, inspiration, and room to explore.?Integrating this design ethos into broader community planning leads to spaces that promote joy, learning, and unity.?The results are aesthetically pleasing and yield a stronger, more resilient social fabric." "By involving children in the placemaking process, cities instill a sense of civic pride and responsibility in younger generations and foster more engaged, forward-thinking communities." "Co-designed with kids in mind, this urban oasis fosters inclusivity and wonder, becoming a beacon for multi-generational connection and shared experiences." #citiesforpeople #lifeinthecity #urbanism #creativeplacemaking #urbandevelopment
