Trying to create a sense of urgency around #climate action in your organization? This news might help you. Climate targets are often presented as further in the distance (e.g., 2030, 2050). But climate change impacts are happening now. And the most effective climate action is action that takes place right now, too. The next two years are "essential in saving our planet," according to Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. "We still have a chance to make greenhouse gas emissions tumble, with a new generation of national climate plans," he said. "But we need these stronger plans, now," In other words, the window of opportunity to prevent the worst climate consequences is shrinking. The time to act is now. Stiell urges world leaders to be bold and focused in the next set of global climate negotiations at COP29 in Azerbaijan. But you don't have to wait until then! Individuals, company leaders, educators, NGO workers -- everyone has a role to play right now. Join #FossilFuelTreaty Initiative during New York Climate Week! Dear friends, allies and partners, As we gear up for New York Climate Week, the Summit of the Future, and the UN General Assembly, we find ourselves at a critical juncture in the global climate fight. We invite you to join us for a series of online and in-person events during New York Climate Week in late September that will bring together world leaders, policymakers, civil society, and experts to push for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and chart a path toward a sustainable, fossil-free future. European mayors are prioritising climate action more than ever, as highlighted at the Cities Mission Conference 2024 in Valencia last week. ???? “If the European Union is questioning if climate action must be supported, local leaders clearly say ‘yes’,” said André Sobczak,?Secretary General of Eurocities. The conference showcased cities' innovative projects in climate neutrality, adaptation and mitigation, emphasised the critical need for access to diverse funding sources, and celebrated the launch of the Climate City Capital Hub (CCCH) to support these efforts. Breaking silos within municipalities and fostering multi-level governance were key themes, underscoring the importance of collaboration across all levels.
