I was talking with a Tier 2 candidate who took a position at an MSP a few months back. They took a lower salary as a monthly bonus is available that would more than offset the lower salary. ? To earn the bonus, you have to have “X” billable time in a month included with your usual day-to-day activities. ? According to the candidate, there are not enough billable hours available during the “9 to 5” work hours to qualify, but there are billable hours after 5 pm. ? People who are qualifying for the bonus are working between 50-60 hours a week. And they are doing this week after week after week….. ? What to take away from this: If you are a candidate for a position that offers the chance to earn a bonus, ask the hiring manager if the people in the same position are earning the bonus during normal working hours. ? If you are a hiring manager, be honest with the candidate about the effort required to earn the bonus. Otherwise, you may be looking to backfill the position in very short order.
