But there still remains that darn school-to-prison pipeline, that somehow magically (it's really just English) keeps ghetto youth (mostly the inner city Blacks and LatinX) from getting in these classrooms and lecture halls (the world over, not just Chicago) 3. Why is the entire world afraid of dark skin males learning math????? 5. Don't get me wrong, the Africans represent well enough... 6. So, I'm specifically referring to African American and LatinX boys (and girls too) from low income communities in these United States, for this particular discourse... 7. Why do American schools criminalize dark skinned males ?? 8. It's the legacy of slavery, schools are.? 9. Education is the legacy of humanity.? 10. But school systems, drivers of capitalism, are offshoots of the plantation infrastructure... 11. Sorry. Hate to be the bearer of truth!? 12. And since we're on the topic, how come no African countries have nuclear technology?? Seems to relate??? ??????

Since the establishment, we have tried to keep an “open doors” policy in the MCB, sharing not only equipment but also expertise and passion for science. This approach has resulted in many great achievements, such as the ERC Consolidator Grant for Dr. hab. Sebastian Glatt, whose #MCBexperience we are sharing today. Why do you believe MCB stands out among other research units? The culture of MCB is based on our community – we share our infrastructure, ideas, knowledge, results and most important of all a common culture of supporting each other. Modern research is done in teams and MCB tries to support this collaborative approach. How has MCB contributed to your academic/professional journey? MCB offered me to create my first independent research group. Therefore, MCB was crucial for me to become an independent scientist and I am very grateful for this opportunity. In your view, what are MCB's most significant accomplishments over the last 10 years? I think the establishment of an independent, world-class research institute within the existing structure of a Polish University is a very significant achievement by itself. #ARVO2024 Update 7: Monitoring myopia and axial length in a student cohort of young adults. Sophie Coverdale and co-authors from University of Bradford, UK. This prospective study monitored spherical equivalent refractive error (SER) and axial length (AL) and estimated myopia incidence and progression rates for a young adult student cohort. Participants (n = 185) aged 18-25yrs were categorised as 'potential progressors' or 'non-progressors' according to AL change (at least 0.04mm, exceeding the repeatability of the IOL Master). After 12mths, both SER and AL increased and 33% were 'potential progressors'. Greater axial elongation was seen for potential progressors in the first 6 months of the study (Oct-April, including Northern Hemisphere winter). Two key conclusions from this study are that approximately 1/3 of young adult students may experience axial length growth, and this may be influenced by seasonal change. The UK’s biggest-ever investment in engineering and physical sciences doctoral skills, totalling more than ￡1 billion nationwide, has been announced by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. The funding will enable 65 Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) across the UK to train a new generation of researchers to address key challenges Oxford will lead four of the CDTs and will be a partner in seven other centres, including the new Engineering Biology CDT (EngBioCDT), led by the University of Bristol in partnership with?Professor Robert Carlisle. This CDT will address the national need for ‘Engineering biologists’ capable of translating synthetic biology approaches into commercial, clinical and industrial practice. The Department of Engineering Science is also involved in CDTs on Healthcare Data Science (Konstantinos Kamnitsas and Jens Rittscher), Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Net Zero (Nick Hawes), and Autonomous Intelligent Machines and Systems (Michael A Osborne). https://lnkd.in/ebBsRUGn
