Today marks the 70th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, a pivotal moment in our nation's history that declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional. As we reflect on the progress made since 1954, we also recognize the ongoing challenges in achieving true educational equity. At Baiza and Associates, we are dedicated to continuing the fight for educational justice through our comprehensive work in leadership and school transformation. We believe that every student deserves access to high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our team works closely with schools and districts to implement strategies that foster inclusive, equitable, and high-performing educational environments. Through leadership development, professional learning, and data-driven decision-making, we help educators create systems that support all students in reaching their full potential. As we honor this historic anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality and justice that Brown vs. Board of Education embodies. Together, we can build a brighter future for all students. #EducationEquity #BrownvBoard70 #Leadership #SchoolTransformation #EdLeadership #EquityInEducation #BaizaAndAssociates

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (‘The Duke of Ed’) is an exciting international youth development program in which all of our elected Year 9 Leaders participate, along with other students who nominated to be part of the program. The program plays a pivotal role in developing our students’ leadership skills and resilience as they transition from Middle School into Senior School. A big shout out to Duke of Edinburgh Leader and Head of Inclusion, Kirsty Keay for her passion and drive in leading the Duke of Ed Awards program at KG and to Middle School Principal Jessica Walker for her enthusiasm and support of the program. The program has many benefits including: 1. Personal Development: Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards encourages students to set goals, push their boundaries, and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. 2. Physical Fitness: The program promotes physical activity through its requirements for participation in sports, physical recreation, and adventurous activities, fostering a healthy and active lifestyle among students. 3. Leadership Skills: Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within their groups, honing their leadership abilities, decision-making skills, and confidence in their own capabilities. 4. Community Engagement: Through volunteering and service activities, participants contribute positively to their communities, developing empathy, social responsibility, and a sense of civic duty. 5. Resilience and Perseverance: Undertaking the challenges presented by the Duke of Edinburgh Awards cultivates resilience and perseverance in students as they navigate obstacles, setbacks, and the demands of the program. 6. Recognition and Achievement: Completing the program and earning the Duke of Edinburgh Award provides students with a tangible recognition of their efforts, achievements, and personal growth, enhancing their self-esteem and motivation. 7. Global Perspective: The program encourages participants to explore new environments, cultures, and experiences, fostering a broader understanding of the world and promoting global citizenship. Below is a fantastic video produced by Education Queensland showcasing KGSC and our staff and students involved in the program. https://lnkd.in/gRrVMjFv #dukeofedinburgh #dukeofedinburghaward #youthleadership #PersonalGrowth #GlobalCitizenship #nurturinggloballycompetentlearnersleadersandcitizens #ThePursuitofExcellenceWithAllOurMight #YourPreptoPathwaysExperience

We’re absolutely sure that Baron R. Davis, Ph.D.’s keynotes at ASU+GSV Summit this week will get people thinking. And we say that because his recent op-ed for EdPost—co-authored with Institute for Education Innovation CEO and Founder Doug Roberts—got *us* thinking about what’s behind the exodus of #superintendents and what education leaders can do about it. https://lnkd.in/eEZqHqTH ? It’s an honor to work with Dr. Davis, an award-winning #education #leader, former superintendent and high school principal, and CEO and founder of The Noegenesis Group. ? In the piece titled “Support Superintendents: Build a Culture of Trust and Stop Turnover, they write, “As devastating as the past four years have been for superintendents, hope is on the horizon. To create meaningful, long-lasting change, it will require a collective effort from communities, educators, and board members.” ? They include three key steps for ending the discord and upheaval: 1. Revisit the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion #DEI 2. Bring back bipartisanship to school boards 3. Support and uplift women and leaders of color ? Their conclusion: “We’re at a critical crossroads. Political discourse must take a backseat to communication, empathy, and trust to create a culture of respect that flows throughout the district.” ? #Education #K12 #ThoughtLeadership #Leaders ?
Was honored to co-author this piece with Baron R. Davis, Ph.D. on ways to ensure we don't continue to lose our best and brightest superintendents from our public schools! I hope that this will be discussed by all the industry and educational leaders gathering next week at ASU+GSV Summit.

Thought Leadership: Courage Under Fire February 7, 2024 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EST The ongoing contraction of higher education funding by state legislatures nationwide, the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action, and social unrest around various work events have highlighted the void in thoughtful and courageous leadership at multiple levels. The future of education and our greater society will largely depend on good leaders’ intentional, strategic decisions. Lyndon Pryor, a former student affairs professional turned nonprofit leader, will discuss the need and strategies for sound leadership in the face of attacks on education, equity, and intellectualism. Participants will be able to share their experiences and discuss actionable strategies for progressing equity in their communities. It’s only been about 15 years in the making … In January, I was appointed a Parent Governor at my kids’ primary school federation. I’ve long wanted to join a Governing board because I know how influential our early years can be on our outcomes later in life. But my oh my, it’s been a baptism of fire. I now know how embarrassingly naive I was; how little I actually knew about how schools are run; the strict & necessary boundaries, the highly limited budgets and the cultural complexities teachers have to navigate. Today, I’m at my computer attending the National School Governors Awareness Day event. It’s a day discussing the governance of inclusion in schools. We’re only one session in and it’s fascinating. Only 28% of Governing boards currently reflect the diversity of their school community. And only 18% have a designated inclusion governor. A parallel too often seen in the corporate world, right? And a powerful place for us to start reimagining how we impact the world of work through our early education systems. What do you think? . . . #schoolgovday #leadingchange #womeninleadership

A powerful read! This occurred at my school this year. We began the year with a stock of highly qualified Black woman teachers who were pushed out and replaced by substitute teachers. I watched in horror as my colleagues left due to harrassment, unsafe work conditions, and a lack of support. During the course of transition and for a long period of time, what we were left with was a mostly white substitute staff. I endured countless conversations rife with deficit thinking and stereotypical ideals about these mostly Black and Brown girls: what they were capable of, who they’ll eventually become, what they didn’t know. Some of those same teachers criticized those who left to preserve their mental health and wellness due to poor leadership who spent more time demeaning us. I stuck around because I wanted my students to have some sort of constant—now I’m on “leave” pending an “investigation” into my “allegations” about a hostile work environment that was a constant fight to do my job as an educator. Now my girls are down one less passionate Black teacher in a predominately Black school. No matter what the research says, many of our school will choose the cheapest, most unqualified, and least effective route rather to recruit teachers who will eventually fail our children as they cannot and will not provide them with a context about the world that Is vastly different for Black children. My observation: the goal is not to best educate students of color, prepare them for the real world or make them more secure in themselves. It is to ingratiate adults who have lifestyles to maintain. This is why the Black Teacher Project is so important! ???????????????????????????????????? And just so y’all know: We are out here! ??? We are worthy! ??? And We are ready! ???
Seventy years post-Brown vs. Board of Education, the landmark case that reshaped our schools, we're still grappling with a critical issue—the stark underrepresentation of educators of color. In a recent USA TODAY article, members of our Network, including Leadership Committee member Tequilla Brownie, Ed.D., 2024 Boulder Fund recipient Dr. Peter Watts, Jr., and our CEO Sharhonda Bossier, share insights about this pressing challenge that is at the core of our work. From the groundbreaking state-by-state analysis conducted by The New Teachers Project to understand the statistics to innovative programs like the Watts of Power Foundation's Village Initiative, our Network is not only driving these conversations but also paving the way for students who look like us.
