? A Message from Grace Sterling Stowell, BAGLY's Executive Director ? Just a few short weeks ago, we invited you to BAGLY’s Open House, announcing our vision for the future - one where BAGLY will be the beacon of light that transforms the lives and landscapes of LGBTQ+ youth in Boston and beyond. This week’s election results have many members of our community feeling as though that beacon of light may be fading. Although none of us have the answers to what to expect in the months and years ahead, we do know that the potential outcomes of some of those election results will disproportionately and negatively impact the young queer and trans people that we serve. We, including the young people accessing BAGLY’s programs, may be experiencing a wide range of difficult emotions - confusion, anxiety, anger, fear - as we try to process the election results. When ready, we must harness these feelings and keep finding that light.? ? There's an important distinction between feeling helpless and there not being anything we can do to build power, community, and resilience.? As always, BAGLY is dedicated to continuing its support of LGBTQ+ teens and young adults.? Remember, we are still providing: - A Community Center with hundreds of activities, events, and support groups each year; - Free mental health therapy services; - As a safeguard for our future, your Youth Leadership & Advocacy program is supporting the young leaders of today, and the future. Since our beginnings 44 years ago, BAGLY, and our community, is no stranger to weathering difficult political times. We are reminded of the importance of our community’s resilience. And why is community important?? Because it can remain steadfast during times of uncertainty. Remember to take care of yourself. Take care of others. And keep being that beacon of light that LGBTQ+ youth are searching for today, tomorrow, and every day. Continue to be a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ Youth - Donate Here: bagly.org/donate

Here is how SAGE, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing issues related to LGBTQ+ people and aging, uses data to reveal unmet needs and ensure their communities are seen. First, SAGE uses data to ensure their programs make an impact by answering questions such as:? -Do our service programs meet the needs of the people they serve? -Has engaging in SAGE programs improved the lives?? -Who aren’t we adequately serving? -What public policies are needed to address the unmet needs?? -Are our training programs effective? Second, they use surveys to gain a better understanding of community satisfaction and uncovering unmet needs. For example, SAGE discovered through intake interviews a high incidence of housing insecurity among its constituents. This led to the creation of the?National LGBTQ+ Housing Initiative. Finally, because they collect so much quality data, they are able to help partner organizations answer questions about their community. They worked with the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) to better understanding of its clients’ unmet needs and provide better transportation options. How is your nonprofit currently using data? Read the full article by Cindy Rizzo, a former SAGE's board member, on Candid insights: https://lnkd.in/eK7ZPh2G

Make It Count: 20 The number to know in social justice this month Sammy Luffy Director of Research, Funders for LGBTQ Issues “Funders for LGBTQ Issues, a Ford grantee, recently released its?20th?resource tracking report, which documents all U.S foundations’ funding for LGBTQ communities and causes. We are a network of more than 100 foundations, corporations, and funding institutions that collectively award more than $1 billion annually, with approximately $200 million specifically devoted to LGBTQ issues. By tracking trends and changes over time, we can help shine a light on emerging opportunities for funders and identify where financial support is most needed. One report finding that we're excited about: A total of $48.1 million was awarded to transgender communities in the United States in 2022, which represents a 34% increase from 2021. That same year, more than 6,000 grants were awarded to LGBTQ communities in the U.S., totaling $258.1 million. Still, a lot of these organizations are having to do more with less; in fact,?less than 1% of all philanthropic funding?goes to LGBTQ nonprofits. Our data shows so many opportunities to assist them, including funding unhoused and marginally housed and older members of the LGBTQ community—an entire generation that was deeply impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. There's a lack of visibility for some of these groups, and by naming them in our report, we're able to make the case for a more thoughtful approach to how we're funding our communities and our causes. We can show that there are tons of opportunities for funders to support the queer community.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eWUfx7rM #Pride #PrideMonth

As chapter chair for one of NM's ERG groups, I posted the statement below in our chapter's Teams channel this morning but thought it relevant to post here on LinkedIn as well... As we process the outcome of this presidential election, we know this moment brings a range of emotions and experiences. For many in our LGBTQ+ community, the stakes feel particularly high. We understand the outcome affects us in unique and personal ways, and we want to acknowledge the complexity of these feelings. In the coming weeks and months, let’s prioritize self-care, solidarity, and resilience. Here are a few ways to support each other and stay engaged: 1. Practice Self-Care and Connection: This may be a good time to reach out to our Employee Assistance Program, connect with a therapist, or find time with friends and allies. Remember that it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling, and you’re not alone. 2. Get Involved in Activism: Consider supporting advocacy groups that are making a difference, especially those focused on LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, and other intersecting issues. Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or raising awareness, small actions create powerful change. 3. Stay Engaged: If you’re up for it, get involved in local politics and community work. Attend town halls, communicate with representatives, or volunteer for campaigns that reflect our values. Together, we can influence the policies that shape our lives and communities. Finally, let’s keep this space a source of positivity, mutual respect, and support. Our voices and our well-being matter, and we are here for one another through this time. Thank you all for being part of this amazing community. Let’s move forward together with strength and resilience.

We are an alliance of charities, human rights organisations and education practitioners who strongly oppose the Government’s exclusionary and unhelpful ‘Guidance for Schools and Colleges on Gender Questioning Children’ for England. We believe all children and young people have the right to education free from discrimination, and LGBT+ young people are no exception. There are only three weeks left to take action by responding to the public consultation on the guidance which is open until 12 March. Here are four ways you can take action: 1. Respond to the consultation The coalition have created a guide on how to respond to the consultation which you can access via the campaign webpage. Allsorts Youth Project?have also produced a guide for young people responding to the consultation. 2. Support the campaign You can do this by signing the Supportive Schools Campaign statement 3. Write to your MP Use?Mermaids?‘Write to your MP’ tool to ask your MP to put pressure on the Government to listen to trans youth and ensure schools are safe and supportive spaces for all young people. LGBT Foundation?are organising a range of consultation response sessions where LGBTQ+ people and allies are welcome to answer the consultation together, with the guidance of LGBTQ+ policy experts who will explain the guidance clearly and help answer any questions people have whilst filling in the consultation. 4. Share the campaign Spread the campaign far and wide with others by using the hashtag?#SupportiveSchools?and signposting them to the Campaign webpage. You can find all of these resources by accessing the Campaign webpage here: https://lnkd.in/d37w2cKP
