Here’s a recap of the other relevant news for #civilaviation: ??During #ICAS2024 in Florence, ATR revealed additional details on the future #hybridelectric aircraft that should be replace the current ATR 72-600 in the 2030s. The design should achieve -20% CO2, -20% maintenance and the capability of running on 100% SAF. The “mildly hybridized” solution was preferred over #batteries (too heavy) and #hydrogen (lower emissions, but not mature and sacrificing the passenger capacity). In the chosen solution, the battery pack should provide 10-20% power split, working during take-off and climb. More info in the article by Guy Norris (Aviation Week). ??There’s again a lot of rumours about Boeing and its #797 Midsize Aircraft. The new aircraft should replace the previous 757-767 and fill the gap between the smaller Boeing 737 Max family and the larger Boeing 787 Dreamliner family. With an expected request of up to 4000 jets, it should be a good application for the next Pratt & Whitney or GE Aviation/CFM International. However, no official announcement is there yet, with Boeing just confirming that the upcoming new aircraft will be built in Washington (where some strikes are ongoing). ?? Heart Aerospace has unveilved its first full-scale flying demonstrator (HX-1), which should lead the company to the hybrid-electric ES-30, announced two years ago. The HX-1 will fly solely on electric power and will be followedin 2026 by HX-2, a pre-production #hybridelectric prototype with separate turboprops and electric engines. The certification of the ES-30 is expected for 2028. ?? Beyond Aero, the Toulouse-based?stratup, shared its plans for fuel cell-powered business jets. Three aircraft are expected to enter into service from 2020s to 2040s, progressively increasing the size and seat capacity. The smaller product (One, 6-8 PAX) should feature 4 #fuelcell stacks with 300 kW each, two electric ducted fans and composite-material 700-bar hydrogen tanks (despite the company is planning to move to liquid hydrogen). A small demonstrator already took off in Feb 2023 completing 10 flights.
