I visited a doctor who became one of best salespeople I ever met! Last week, I went to Apollo Health Center for my yearly health checkup. It was a routine appointment, but it was more attractive due to being free of cost. Dr. Sneha greeted me and we engaged in casual conversation when she began her check-ups. Started as a stranger, but she built a sense of trust in me within a few minutes. She shared her journey when she used to live near my residence and worked as an assistant dentist. Her story put me at ease, and I started opening up about aspects of my oral health. After the inspection, she asked about interest in scheduling a teeth cleaning. I couldn't say NO. We started with teeth cleaning and ended up with gum cleaning, filing teeth cavities and more. During the entire process, she wasn’t sales. Being a salesman, even I didn’t know when I was influenced by her. I appreciated her sales skills which she received with a little smile. This story shows sales is not only a compulsory skill for a salesperson but it is crucial for everyone in day-to-day life. I have hired lots of sales guys for KEYENCE INDIA PVT. LTD. for years but I’m yet to find a candidate like her. P.S.- In the end, my smile vanished after the treatment when she presented me with the huge bill. Between the large orthopedic device companies and some of the smaller ones that have open position information on their websites, there are over 750 advertised sales positions in the US. The qualifications for these advertised roles are generally limited to candidates that have 5 or less years of experience. One company even says they only want "candidates with 1 year or less of light med device experience". Is it possible that the HR departments and hiring managers for these companies have no interest at all in candidates that have more than 5 years' experience? Is this a cost savings thing? Have candidates like me with a wealth of experience priced themselves out of the market? Is it ageism? Do they think we're too old? Where are the HR administrators and hiring managers that are looking to add a seasoned salesperson to their team? Is saving some money by adding a brand-new salesperson right out of school who will need to be trained and may not work out at all worth it instead of adding a seasoned salesperson that is a known commodity and will cost a little more? I'm not the only experienced person looking to join someone's team. All we need is an opportunity.
