"Foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to U.S. trans communities and issues." -- 2021 Tracking Report: LGBTQ Grantmaking by U.S. Foundations It's been 3 years. What do you think has changed since then? The truth is, I don't know for sure, but I highly speculate that these 4 cents have not increased significantly, if at all. Point of Pride is unique in that our largest fundraiser each year comes directly from the community we serve. In just 2 years, we've seen over 70,000 individuals from the trans, nonbinary, gender-diverse communities, and our allies make donations, averaging $44 each. This community-driven funding constitutes a significant portion of our annual budget, supporting our 5 direct-service programs. I'm grateful for any person, company, or foundation that recognizes life-saving gender-affirming care as a fundamental right for all trans and nonbinary people. As we move into the second half of 2024, I hope to see this support grow rather than shrink, despite the challenging political climate surrounding transgender healthcare and access rights.

LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

A statement from NEOCH's Director of LGBTQ+ Navigation Services about HB 68: I am profoundly outraged by the court's ruling on House Bill 68. With over a decade of experience working with youth, I am acutely aware of the severe harm and fear this decision will inflict. Access to gender-affirming care is a critical aspect of well-being and stability for many folks, and legal restrictions on this essential care will only intensify the already overwhelming challenges faced by marginalized communities. Trans and non-binary youth already face significant obstacles, including disproportionately high rates of housing instability and homelessness. Limiting their access to gender-affirming care exacerbates these difficulties and jeopardizes their mental and emotional health. Ensuring that all individuals have access to supportive and affirming care is crucial for their well-being and autonomy. If you are determined to make a difference, consider donating to The Future is Queer Fund. https://lnkd.in/gpUU4uph

I am excited about POSSIBLE and meeting Christian Muche and the team. They have been supportive, but it was too late this year to do much in terms of recognizing the erosion of human rights that is going on in Florida this year in a programed way. We have talked about working together for next year. As an aside, someone who is, I think fair to say, an S tier AdTech leader (ask your kids) sent me a lovely note, saying that they were glad that I am raising this issue and my words have had an impact; that they are going to think more about where to hold their events. I could not be happier that I have helped put LGBTQ and Minority rights on their radar. There are a number of LGBTQ folks that will be down at the conference and I hope that they, and folks who are ?? allies, will flag me down, ask for a pin (I have 98 left. I sent one to my S tier friend and going to send one home with Adam Heimlich for Ali Manning, whom I promised one) and consider donating to The Trevor Project. I will be in the lobby of the hotel around 3pm, but I will be bopping around. I am looking forward to seeing more of the conference than I usually do. We are going to try to get some folks together for a drink and do some organizing. Let me know if you are interested and I will add you to the group chat. And if you think of it, please do the various things that one can do on Linkedin to improve reach of this post (I am avoiding use of the words. I am wondering if using them reduced reach.) I set up a fund-raising page, below, and will reach out to TTP folks after the conference to see if they are interested in working together. As I have noted, I contribute 10% of the cost of my trips to Florida to TTP. But I would love to have you contribute any amount. I am just thrilled that people think this is an important enough issue to put some cash behind it. https://lnkd.in/eYpkRix5 #possible2024 #lgbtq
