?? Exciting news in the world of AWS! We're announcing some upcoming changes to the AWS Security Token Service (STS) global endpoint that will enhance your application's performance and resilience! Since its launch in 2011, AWS STS has operated with a single global endpoint. However, starting in early 2025, requests to the STS global endpoint will be served from the same region as your AWS deployed workloads, improving speed and reliability. This means if you're calling from the US West (Oregon), your requests will be handled locally rather than routed through the US East (N. Virginia). In our latest blog post, we dive deep into these changes, the improvements they bring, and our recommendations on the best practices for using STS endpoints going forward. In business, most numbers fluctuate—revenue, expenses, traffic. But there's one number that seems to have a steady upward trend: the AWS bill. Here's a tip I learned this week. Did you know AWS charges for IP address usage? I didn’t either. Apparently, it's been that way for a while. Even worse, 90% of our servers and IPs aren't even in a public subnet! While this is only a small fraction of our overall AWS bill, it’s worth exploring how much we can reduce this specific cost. I'll share an update in a few weeks. We already optimize with reserved instances and savings plans, but those don’t flag these kinds of charges. Case in point: $1,804.48 last month just for Public IP addresses. ??
