A soldier returns from deployment with stories no one will understand. These stories cover the range of human emotions: sadness, grief, loneliness, rage, despair, regret, and so on. When a veteran comes to?#VeteransEquineAlliance?(VEA) they will be gently coached to open up and tell their stories to the horse they decide to work with. Dan and I do not have to hear the conversation. This is a conversation between two beings who have been through similar - but different - experiences. Yet these two beings have everything in common. What can the horse offer? Healing, especially when the veteran returns for more sessions. We work with veterans in a way that uniquely meets their needs. What we do not do... is tell them what they need. Often a walk with their horse that involves no words is just what they need. Help us get the word out. VEA is available for all Wisconsin veterans and is free of charge. No horse experience is necessary. We are a non-riding horse program. Listing the disastrous consequences of the GWOT’s failure, is like an unfunny version of Reg at The People's Front of Judea’s meeting asking “What have the Romans ever done for us?”. While the geopolitical, #Financial & moral chickens come home to roost; we are also reaping a bitter cultural harvest from the collective hero-worship of our “warrior class” during the GWOT. Especially “tactical” instructors. ? As someone who thinks machine-guns should be sold over-the-counter like any other firearm & the proper limits on private #Firearms ownership start at WMDs, it’s great that folks want to learn how to shoot in a combat type environment. Personally, thanks to the US Army, I’m not wearing battle-rattle or getting sweaty at the range unless I’m getting paid for it. But that’s just me being dour & lazy. ? If people want to LARP SEALs, more power to them. But if you’re going to go to those courses, to quote GEN Ripper “in the name of Her Majesty & the Continental Congress”, put some thought into who you are learning from. ? The GWOT’s extensive use of #SpecialForces, turned what were once “quite professionals” into a cultural totem of high-speed death machines, who like Rambo are a one-man #Army. That created a demand for all kinds of gimmicky cringe, ranging from “boot camps” where you pay money to get yelled at & demeaned, to combat #Shooting courses. ? This insatiable cultural demand to try to attach yourself to anything even remotely SF related, has unleashed a pestilence of VetBros who think their DD214 has imbued them with a mastery of all things related to #Guns. We don’t need Maury’s Lie Detector Test to realize that this video of people paying money to beclown themselves, is pure, unfiltered & unadulterated cringe. ? Outside of certain very niche units, everything in the #Military is about fighting as a team. Combatives isn’t about challenging the enemy to a hand-to-hand battle to the death. It’s about delaying the enemy from hurting you long enough for your buddy to smash their skull with the butt of their weapon. United States Army Ranger School is to forge leaders who can think under extreme stress, not Rambos who can annihilate armies single-handedly. ? A civilian using firearms for #SelfDefense, is an entirely different type of shooting than the military, where fire & maneuver is the name of the game. I’m no #Lawyer, but I’m pretty sure that suppressive fire, ambushes & +100m engagements, are great ways to go to jail. ? That doesn’t mean that what you learn in the military about shooting & tactics is worthless outside of war. Rather that having a combat-arms MOS on your DD214, doesn’t mean you intrinsically know anything useful about shooting. Much less qualified to teach people about it. ? If you’re looking for #Training, go for it. There’s tons of great instructors, some with DD214s, some without. There’s also tons of wankers who have no clue what they’re doing. A great warning sign is when someone’s DD214 is part of the sales pitch.
