Do you have a problem with vehicles failing to give way to oncoming riders? Are riders being seriously injured on your roads? RideOn magazine reported that a study of a decade of bicycle crashes found 11% were vehicles turning right across the path of an oncoming rider - the highest of any type of bicycle crash. Vivacity Smart Lighting's smart in-ground stud lights are combined with detector loops and active signs to provide additional warnings to drivers when a bicycle or scooter is detected in a lane. The lights are angled so that they are best seen by drivers turning right, as well as those exiting the side road or driveway. OmniGrip Direct supplies and installs Vivacity's smart stud lights. This video shows the riders perspective, and more information is available at https://lnkd.in/g5Z56gnQ If you need smart stud lights to reduce the risk of crashes on your public or private roads, lanes and driveways then email [email protected] or call 1300 961 678. #roads #roadsafety #bikesafety #publicsafety #localgovernment #stateroads #DTP
Our Smart Stud Lights along the Latrobe Street bike lane in Melbourne reduce the risk of drivers turning across the path of bicycle and scooter riders. Watch this video to see the lights from the perspective of a rider as they ride across the entrance to one of the city's busiest car parks. If you are interested in smart lights for the safety of riders in your community, or other workplace and public safety applications, please call us on (03) 7004 7500 or email [email protected]. #bikesafety #ridersafety #publicsafety #facilitymanagement #localgovernment #roadsafety #roads OmniGrip Direct - Australia Wide, Polar Enviro

Pedestrians and cyclists sharing space is based on the idea of everyone being socially responsible. It’s expected that whoever is present in the space will politely negotiate the right of way. That’s because there are few, if any traffic controls, barriers or road markings. But that has to change. See link for this research on shared space and user preferences. Also an article on whether bike lanes actually slow traffic or whether it's a myth. A modelling technique on retrofitting bike lanes says probably not. See link for my synopsis of both.

LET'S TALK ABOUT SLIP LANES??♀???♂? Slip lanes might speed up car traffic, but they pose significant risks for pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter users. Designed to prioritize automobiles, these lanes create unsafe crossing conditions and discourage walking and biking, undermining efforts to build a more people-friendly Boise. It's time to rethink our streets and design for safety and accessibility for all users. Let's talk to our local planners, engineers, and leaders about their collective impact and understand how we can advocate for safer, more inclusive infrastructure. #strongerboise ??

On an island where #space is it at a premium, these images should be plastered in front of the eyes of our decision makers. We can complain and grumble all day about #traffic in #malta, but the truth is that our priorities are wrong. Our #transport #infrastructure favours the least space efficient mode. So what can you expect in a country with ever increasing increasing #population and #car ownership levels?

MORE EFFICIENT USE OF SPACE? Anytime you get the chance for a bird’s eye view of traffic, you should take it! Changing perspectives can be helpful to better visualize the systemic injustices in road space distribution. We just give way to much space for cars, and it is a very inefficient use of space. A classic example is the legendary Münster Road space poster https://lnkd.in/d2iC8W4r. The photo I took at N?rreport, Copenhagen, shows what we already know: Cycling is a very space-efficient mode that also allows for mass transportation. Cars? Not so much… 9 ?? 41 ??

This article in TRB's Transportation Research Record journal details the observance of cyclists at two traffic signal intersections in the city center of Lille, France. The relationships between some sociodemographic variables like gender, age, parenthood, use of a shared versus a personal bike, and some risky behaviors (such as helmet use, red-light running, and crossing an intersection with a very short time before the next passing vehicle) remain inconsistent or under-investigated. Among this study's findings: - Men (versus women) and young (versus older) cyclists are less likely to wear a helmet and more likely to run red lights. - Cyclists with (versus without) a child seat were more likely to wear a helmet, suggesting that parenthood influences risk perception. - Shared (versus personal) bike users were found to be significantly less likely to wear a helmet and more likely to run red lights. https://lnkd.in/g6z_pjce

When biking, make sure you stay safe while doing so! Wear a helmet, use hand signals to indicate turns, and ride in the same direction as traffic flow. Let's make sure every ride is a safe one this #NationalSafetyMonth. Learn more from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA: https://lnkd.in/g5fnxy6x.

?? We’ve installed two cameras here on J. Bottu Street to monitor traffic flows as part of a new cycling path investment. One camera is dedicated to tracking vehicles, while the other measures pedestrian and cyclist activity, recording movements in both directions. This setup will support key decisions in traffic management. For us, working with data isn't just an internal task; we’re constantly seeking ways to make data more accessible to the public. This new counter will showcase daily and annual cyclist counts, offering clear insights into urban mobility trends. #UrbanMobility #SmartCities #DataTransparency #SustainableTransport
