??????Morgan & Morgan Take Action Against Ultra-Processed Foods: A Wake-Up Call for the Food Industry??????? Morgan & Morgan has recently filed a lawsuit highlighting the dangers of ultra-processed foods, alleging they are harmful and addictive. This case is more than just a legal battle—it's a spotlight on the growing concerns surrounding public health and the food we consume. Ultra-processed foods, often linked to obesity, heart disease, and other chronic conditions, dominate our shelves and diets. The lawsuit raises critical questions: Are food companies prioritizing profits over public health? Should stricter regulations be enforced on processed food production and marketing? How can consumers make more informed choices? This case could mark a turning point in holding corporations accountable for the health impact of their products. If successful, it might push for transparency in labeling, stricter marketing regulations, and healthier product innovations. What are your thoughts on the role of food companies in promoting public health? Is legal action the way forward, or should we look at alternative solutions like education and awareness campaigns? Let’s discuss! #HealthAndWellness #PublicHealth #FoodIndustry #ProcessedFoods #Accountability #MorganAndMorgan https://lnkd.in/gpz9fqbx

Attention Public Health Advocates! A new report from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator reveals how the sweetened beverage industry—often dubbed Big Soda—is fiercely resisting sweetened beverage (SB) taxes globally. Their tactics include legal threats, lobbying efforts, and attempts to skew public perception, all aimed at protecting profits at the expense of public health. With billions lost each year due to the adverse effects of sugary drinks, it’s crucial for policymakers and advocates to unite against industry interference. By safeguarding SB tax policies and pushing back against these aggressive strategies, we can promote healthier diets and combat non-communicable diseases. In Pakistan one can just laugh on this. Preventive health, public health measures never given due importance, except research over research on multiple multiple public health topics, and what about outcome? Poor Nutrition related policies at govt level, even at organizational level there are no Nutrition related policies with regard to public health. With high burden of esophageal cancer we are just failed to implement a single measure of putting ban on use of pan, gutka at Public places and even in hospitals. Although govt measures are appreciable on putting tax on sugar sweetened beverages still there is lack of support and policies with in the organizations.

As health consumers we must pay attention and call out the #CommercialDeterminantsOfHealth This interesting article in today's paper looks at the impact of not eating ultra-processed foods, referring to the increased risks of cancer being seen in young adult populations. "...companies overseen by former tobacco company executives produce the most hyper-palatable foods... I’m frustrated by the health impacts of ultra-processed foods not because I think people are making bad decisions by choosing to eat them, but because I suspect corporations don’t care how their products affect consumers." A timely reminder that while there's a welcome focus on protecting the public from potentially unsafe medications, there's still more to do to protect us from unsafe foodstuffs. "Scientists will instead call these “food products” as a reminder that they’re made not so much of food, but of products extracted from food – fats, starches and added sugars – and additives." The article also notes that moving away from UPFs isn't just about food regulation, but about a major shift in how we organise our lives so that we can invest the time in preparing nutritious meals. I'd heard this year's Federal budget being trailed as a #WellbeingBudget but I didn't see any evidence of that in the analysis. This is why I was so keen to ensure that our new strategy at Health Consumers' Council WA is clear that we are also in the business of advocating for #BetterHealthForAll alongside our enduring focus on safe high quality integrated person-centred healthcare. #PeoplePower #ConsumersLeadingChange https://lnkd.in/gh_zbmWX
