Roller derby is good business training. It is not just a sport; It’s also ~ a way of life ~ with valuable lessons ~ and adrenaline pumped moments But never underestimate how similar lessons from roller derby (and sport) are similar to business: ?? Empowerment ~ Everyone has a role to play. ~ Each player's contribution is essential. ~ Teamwork and collaboration are critical for success. ?? Resilience ~ Sometimes I try ~ and get knocked down ~ but I have to get back up again ~ It's about resilience and challenges - not giving up. ?? Confidence ~ I’m faced with so many unexpected things in derby ~ Primes me well for a day in the life of being a solopreneur. ~ Whether wining or losing - choose the action that will move the needle ?? Adaptability ~ Derby is mega fast-paced ~ Requires quick thinking and adaptability ~ You can’t be good at derby if you’re not able to adapt So many things we do in life - train us for other things we’re involved in. ?I organized a "last third" training session for forwards and midfielders, branded 1000 passes. As you can see in this video, things are running very smoothly, even when executed by U12 players. What does this mean? When things aren’t done randomly, and players focus on details, it becomes much easier to be efficient. In fact, the 1000 passes methodology is a continuous effort to make football more efficient, reducing unnecessary movements in favor of gaining space and time. The AFC “Bathurst 100” ???? Throwback to the end of 2023 when we had our whole Advance Fluid Control and United Flexible NZ teams together for a day of strategy and teambuilding. For our afternoon teambuilding event, we all split into teams of two, for a Bathurst-Style kart racing showdown. The Rules: ? Two drivers per team. ? Each team must complete 5 compulsory pit stops. ? No Contact. (whoops, some didn’t get that memo ??) ? Fastest team to 100 laps wins. As the tires screeched and competitive spirits were unleashed, its safe to say we all learnt that pit strategy and communication are a must when trying to out-drive the other teams.
