Yesterday, I had the pleasure of carpooling with strangers who became friends. Our casual introductions quickly evolved into engaging conversations about modern recruitment practices and their experiences with HR (after they knew that I am from HR). We delved into pressing topics like talent gaps, Gen Z hiring challenges, furlough, layoffs, market trends, and more. One remark stuck with me: "We can't discuss things so openly with our HR folks." This candid comment highlighted a concerning reality. In our pursuit of business growth, are we neglecting the fundamental "Human" aspect of HR? This encounter left me pondering: 1. Are we prioritizing efficiency over empathy in HR? 2. Do our recruitment strategies overlook emotional intelligence? 3. Are we fostering open communication channels for employees? To truly support business growth, HR must reconnect with its human-centric roots. This involves: 1. Fostering trust through transparent communication 2. Emphasizing emotional intelligence in hiring 3. Creating safe spaces for open discussions A Call to Action Let's rebalance our HR focus, blending business objectives with genuine human connection.
