Wonderful work! This also fits with #ambit systems. How often are we forcing children into adult spaces of significant power dynamics? Agencies tend to speak proudly of the meetings they hold where they invite young people into the discussion - and that’s fantastic. But we can allow it to feel like a power play, that the young person has no agency and is surrounded by (often) strangers making decisions that impact that young person’s daily, monthly and life experiences without knowing what each professional’s role is, the powers they have….. utterly terrifying for many. Next time you’re arranging a meeting, whether a court appearance or otherwise - rebuild the space. - Whether simulating that in an empty meeting room with name and role plaques (and what they do,) - a photo of the space with text labels - or get more creative, like this wonderful piece of work by Ruth Hayles ??????????
Last month, a parent of a child with autism phoned the Isle of Wight Youth Justice Service, as her son was anxious about attending court for the first time; she asked if we had any photos? We didn't. So, we did a hand drawing of the layout and sent a stock image....but this got me thinking! This isn't good enough! So I've searched and searched for models, puzzles, tried to gain permission to take a photo but there are so few resources! So, I've made one, sometimes simplicity wins!

These numbers cannot, should not, be simply ignored. There is enough data and studies done to suggest a link to childhood vaccines. For me three things are obvious. One, there is a huge surge in autism starting in the late 60's. Two, we are being asked to trust the same system that brought us the whole covid fiasco. Three, this same system is compliant in many instances whereby the products given to people caused great harm, and death. My conclusion, the whole medical system, the health boards and oversight agencies are broken and must be blown up and re-established with new laws to ensure big pharma is not incharge of testing its own products, it's that it is liable for damages from said products. And that the revolving door for management between them and the Healt agencies is slammed shut permanently....it's the same old problem. Follow the money. And that problem is destroying our great institutions, and big companies, And it's gotta stop.

Note to self - try to remain calm when coming upon an article which discusses limiting access to normal childhood activities to autistic kids... Newsflash, autistic kids are kids. They will be interested (or not) in TV and games. That there is even a need to tell carers their kids have the right to access media is mindboggling. That discussion of access further needs to be medicalised is next level. CW as this talks about ableist gatekeeping https://lnkd.in/e_6arBgr

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 54 children are identified as being on the Autism Spectrum, and it truly is a spectrum.
