The current conversation regarding the so-called "reading wars" is old fashioned. When someone asks me what is the right approach to teaching their young person, I say, "I haven't met your child yet." We've to to get past simplistic responses that try to raise the floor and not the ceiling. We are all on the same team. We need a toolkit with more than one tool in it.
