Parents of disabled children often face barriers in accessing their children's rights. Researching support services can be confusing and time consuming. Many parents don't know where to begin. Among UK parents whose children have disabilities, 69% receive no support. For working mothers, the lack of support often means they must give up their careers to be full-time carers. This widens the economic gender gap. Sam Tebb set up Parent Suportal to make accessing support easier for families, saving parents valuable time. Myself, Justine Render and Oliver James Bawtree delivered an "Autism acceptance in the workplace" presentation to our European colleagues and won a chance to donate money to our chosen Charity. We decided to go one step further and use the monies to fund x2 of the Award winning Smart GX165 to local Specialist Schools in order to create an Inclusive learning environment. Accepting Autism doesn't just start when young people are looking for Employment, it begins at the start of their journey in society. As Employers we should seek every opportunity to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about autism, because embracing autism in the workplace isn't just about diversity; it's about unlocking the unique talents and perspectives that enrich our teams and drive innovation. Children within an adult abusive relationship will witness boundaries being very strict, controlled but also inconsistent, therefore they may need reassurance with what are healthy expectations for them to have of themselves. There may also be a fear of failure due to the emotional abuse witnessed and so emotional validation and support is sometimes needed, so that they know they may sometimes fail, get things wrong and not do everything perfectly all the time but it’s ok. Lighthouse delivers a number of courses for children and young people who have been affected by abusive relationships, this work is vital to ensure that they understand how it has affected them and that they can have healthy relationships with those around them. With adoption, you need an agency that’s transparent, that you can trust, and that’s respectful of the children and their histories. The agency should be willing to walk you through their entire process, from beginning to end. It’s also important to understand that adoption isn’t an act of charity. You’re not saving a disadvantaged child, who should then reward you with eternal gratitude. These children are suffering tremendous loss. In the case of international adoption, they’re losing an entire culture. Adoption is a beautiful, amazing thing, but it’s important to be respectful of the trauma the child goes through, and the loss and grief that may follow. #adoption #adoptionadvocate #adoptionstruggles

I am asking for your help, please. 339 days... (#AndCounting) without Safe harbor for youth. This further hurts the most vulnerable demographics (impoverished, traumatized, mentally unwell, women/girls, people of color, LGBT and gender-nonconforming, disabled, mentally unwell, orphaned, throwaways...) It denies them basic needs, #mentalhealth services, and the opportunity to change the #trajectory of their lives. When I ran at 17, the #shelter provided more than a roof, bed, and food. It encouraged self-reflection, held me accountable for growth, and never stopped being available. Any former client could visit, and then did! They came to talk to staff (which I was 3 times), reminisce, share good news or bad, seek advice, guidance, resources... Because most of the youth had no parent or adult in their lives to guide them or for them to show off to and boast about accomplishments otherwise unseen and uncelebrated. It leaves little room to develop pride, self-esteem and -confidence. They came back when they needed to go #Home. The help never ended. Because help is always there, when we look for it, when we actively seek it out. I am asking for #YOURHELP NOW: For your time, your money, your involvement as CLCL Foundation seeks to expand the movement to #ENDYouthHomelessness with innovative ideas, community-based approaches, trauma-informed services, that are inclusive and accessible to all in need.
