Do you have any go-to teaching or learning strategies that are tried and true? The one-minute paper (OMP) is one of the best tools for assessing teaching and learning effectiveness in the traditional classroom, however, little is known about its use in online/virtual learning. In a qualitative study, the authors explore the use of OMP in the online/virtual setting in a master’s level social work course in research and advanced clinical practice. Understanding what knowledge is gained is important during course facilitation. There were five primary themes revealed: activity-based learning, course content, connection with asynchronous content, critical thinking, and relationship building. The other themes noted are technical issues, flow of class, negative feedback, programmatic discussion, and professionalism. While qualitative research is not generalizable, it does give insight into the utility of OPM in the online/virtual classroom. Campbell, M., Abel, E. M., & Lucio, R. (2019). Clear learning outcomes : Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) statements of what students will be able to do. 2. https://lnkd.in/gNm5BZuF ?? Exciting times in education! I am just delving into the **UDL Guidelines 3.0 Full Draft** and it's sparking some thoughts: "With UDL Guidelines 3.0 we seek to put UDL in conversation with other asset-based pedagogies, making the intersections and complementary nature more explicit." This got me thinking about the rich tapestry of asset-based approaches in education: ? Culturally Responsive Teaching ? Funds of Knowledge ? Strengths-Based Learning ? Critical Pedagogy ? Trauma-Informed Teaching ? Multiliteracies Pedagogy ? Constructivist Learning Theory As an advocate of Adult Education, I'm particularly intrigued by how these intersect with andragogy - the art and science of adult learning. ?? Question for my network: How have you seen UDL principles effectively applied in adult education settings? Are there any success stories or challenges to share? #UDL #AdultEducation #ProfessionalDevelopment #ContinuousLearning I am looking forward to engaging in this important conversation! ????

Is Your Curriculum Out of Touch? In the ever-evolving landscape of education, staying relevant is not just an option; it's a necessity. Is the curriculum you're using engaging the students it’s meant to serve, or is it clinging to outdated models? Here's how I approach curriculum design to ensure it resonates with today's youth and prepares them effectively for their futures: 1. Start with the Why Understanding the 'why' behind each part of the curriculum is crucial. It's not just about what students learn, but why they learn it. How does each lesson contribute to their growth and readiness for the real world? 2. Involve the Youth Curriculum design shouldn’t happen in a silo. Involving students in the process ensures that the education they receive is not only relevant but also vibrant with their insights and realities. This collaborative approach transforms passive learning into an engaging and empowering experience. 3. Skills for Tomorrow The world our students will inherit is unlike any we’ve known. Therefore, I focus on skills like critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability—abilities that will empower them in a volatile, uncertain world. 4. Belong, Believe, Begin At the heart of my educational philosophy is the Belong, Believe, Begin framework. It nurtures a sense of belonging, bolsters students' belief in their capabilities, and encourages actionable steps toward their goals. 5. Embrace Feedback for Evolution Education is dynamic. A curriculum that adapts based on continuous feedback from those it impacts—the students and educators—is one that remains effective and relevant. If your curriculum feels disconnected from the needs of today’s youth, it might be time for a change. Are you ready to design educational experiences that matter? Let’s connect and discuss how we can make education more relevant and impactful together. #EducationReform #YouthEmpowerment #CurriculumDesign #InnovativeEducation #FutureReady
