Check out Sawyer Henshaw's series, "Game on!" bringing #UnderstandingbyDesign and project-based learning #PBL together in a real-world example using game design for 4th grade students. #UbD can be invaluable in ensuring that deep learning and application happen by design. It can help us purposefully think beyond high test scores and rote memorization and to focus on #curriculumdesign that better supports students in developing the thinking and questioning skills that will benefit them as members of society. #curriculumdevelopment

"While #gamebasedlearning can be incredibly engaging and effective in developing certain cognitive skills, the absence of real-world application can leave a gap in students’ understanding. Purely game-focused curricula may excel at teaching specific mechanics and concepts within the game environment, but they often fall short in preparing students for the complexities they will encounter in their future careers and daily lives." Our newest blog explores the importance of why real-world application is imperative in game-based learning. Learn more here: https://hubs.la/Q02msdc50

Spicing things up – Bringing in realia?? Realia are real objects that you can bring into the classroom. They add a tangible aspect to your lessons which give students a heightened experience around the target language. This extra activity can really help students to bind the lesson’s target language to memory, especially for students who fall into the kinesthetic learner category. Benefits of Using Realia in the Classroom 1. Tangible Learning Experience: Realia, which refers to real objects or materials from the physical world, can provide a hands-on and tangible learning experience for students. By using realia in the online classroom, students can interact with physical objects and gain a deeper understanding. 2. Student Engagement: Incorporating realia into online lessons can boost student engagement by appealing to multiple senses. Visual, tactile, and auditory stimuli. 3.Interactive Learning: Realia encourages active discussion and interactive learning. Students can manipulate objects, examine details, fostering a sense of curiosity that enhances learning. Integrating realia into the online classroom can enrich the learning experience, and foster a more interactive and engaging educational environment. What are other benefit of using realia in the classroom? kindly share in the comment section. P.S Below is a capture of one of the experiences in using realia with a student in an online classroom. #ESL #teachingearlyyears #onlineclassroom #digitallearning

The Future of Education: Learning in Your Pajamas Education today isn't what it used to be—thank goodness! We're moving away from musty classrooms to dynamic, individualised learning experiences. Here’s a quick look at how modern education is evolving: 1. Online Learning Platforms: The days of “the dog ate my homework” are over. With platforms like Coursera and Udemy, you can learn anything from quantum physics to underwater basket weaving, all from the comfort of your home (pajamas optional). 2. Adaptive Learning Technologies: Remember those one-size-fits-all lessons? Neither do we. Tools like Knewton are tailoring education to fit each student’s pace and style, ensuring everyone learns in a way that suits them best. 3. Gamification: Who says learning can’t be fun? Platforms like Kahoot! turn education into a game, making it a bit more exciting than a snooze-worthy lecture. Points for trying, at least. 4. Microlearning: Got a short attention span? Microlearning delivers bite-sized chunks of information, perfect for those who get distracted by, say, the thought of snacks every ten minutes. 5. Virtual Reality: Imagine studying ancient Rome by actually walking its streets—virtually, of course. VR tech is bringing subjects to life in ways that a dusty old textbook never could. In short, modern education is about flexibility, engagement, and accessibility. It’s designed to fit around your life, not the other way around. So, what are you learning today? #EducationRevolution #EdTech #LifelongLearning #LearningInPajamas --- What’s your take on modern education? Share your thoughts and experiences below!
