That's progress! In 1954 Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. His time -- 3?minutes 59.4?seconds. When Bannister ran his historic race, I love how the stadium announcer added drama to the event by teasing the crowd by delaying his announcement of Bannister's race time for as long as possible: "Ladies and gentlemen, here is the result of event nine, the one mile: first, number forty one, R. G. Bannister, Amateur Athletic Association and formerly of Exeter and Merton Colleges, Oxford, with a time which is a new meeting and track record, and which—subject to ratification—will be a new English Native, British National, All-Comers, European, British Empire and World Record. The time was three..." The roar of the crowd drowned out the rest of the announcement! Interestingly, after all those years of runners attempting to run a sub four minute mile, Bannister's record stood for only 46 days before being broken by a runner named John Landy. But I think the most interesting part of the four minute mile story is that in 2023, there were 165 NCAA runners who ran sub four minute miles. That's progress! Business is the same as the runner's story. We need to learn more, be more efficient, and continue to do better, and be better, than we were the year before. And sometimes we need someone to show us what is possible! #leadership #progress

?? Watching tennis is more than just a sport for me—it’s a learning ground for resilience, strategy, and growth. This year, Andre Agassi’s commentary at the Laver Cup was a masterclass in life lessons, and it’s particularly impactful coming from someone who has faced so many personal and professional challenges. Agassi’s career is an inspiring story of perseverance, and his reflections on and off the court have stuck with me. A recent Harvard Business Review interview with Agassi delves even deeper into his journey as a player and overcomer. Here are some powerful insights he shared at the Laver Cup: ?? Play with your opponent’s racquet.?--> Know your environment and gather all the data you can. ?? Is the ball playing you??--> When things feel overwhelming, simplify. ?? Trust your swing. --> Trust yourself.? ?? Push yourself to victory,?especially as the underdog. --> Rise above expectations. ?? Have conviction in your game plan.?--> See it through with purpose and determination. ?? Don’t bail out just because it doesn’t feel right.?--> Sometimes, you need to lean in to see things through. ?? Nice when data aligns with what your eyes see.?--> Rely on both intuition and information. ?? Rather miss long or wide than into the net. --> Let them know you’re bringing it.?Go all in, even if there's risk. Agassi’s insights are reminders that resilience, trust in ourselves, and purposeful action can be game-changers in our lives and careers. Whether it’s facing down a tough opponent or navigating challenges in our own arenas, we can always draw strength from our experiences, trust in our abilities, and keep pushing forward. #LaverCup #AndreAgassi #LifeLessons #Leadership #HBR #TennisWisdom

The fine margins between success and failure. Two weeks ago, Gareth Southgate was minutes from losing his job, facing massive criticism, and almost becoming a national villain. His career was on the brink of disaster… but then something incredible happened. Jude Bellingham stepped up. It happened again last night when Ollie Watkins stepped up in the dying minutes to win the game and send them to the finals. Now, Southgate is on the edge of legendary status. If his team wins against Spain in the final, they'll be building statues of him, and "Gareth" will be the top baby's name in England for the next 20 years. Southgate’s journey is a jaw-dropping reminder of how thin the line between success and failure can be. In our careers, we face similar high-stakes moments. We could be one decision away from epic success or major setbacks. Here’s what we can learn from Southgate's epic comeback: Stay Resilient: Bounce back stronger from every setback. Seize Opportunities: Step up when it matters the most. Aim for Greatness: Success often lies just beyond your biggest challenges. #Leadership #Success #Resilience #Inspiration #Business #LifeLessons https://lnkd.in/dNPJBRep

Wimbledon Embraces the Future: Line Judges to be Replaced by Automated Technology from 2025…?? From 2025, the iconic tournament will take a bold step forward by replacing all line judges with Live Electronic Line Calling. This decision marks a significant break from 147 years of tradition, aligning Wimbledon with the Australian Open and US Open, where automated systems are already in use. The Hawk-Eye technology, familiar to many players since its introduction on select courts in 2007, will now cover every inch of the grounds, including during qualifying at Roehampton. The decision followed extensive testing and consultation, with organisers confident that the technology is "sufficiently robust" to handle the demands of The Championships. While this shift represents a major leap in #innovation, it's important to acknowledge the longstanding contribution of line umpires, who have been integral to Wimbledon's history. The All England Club has expressed its gratitude for their dedication over the years. With this move, the French Open now stands as the last Grand Slam relying solely on human line judges. Will it follow suit soon? In another update, from next year, the singles finals will see a time shift, starting at 4pm, with the doubles finals kicking off the action at 1pm. As Wimbledon continues to balance tradition and #technology, one thing is certain: the game is always evolving. https://lnkd.in/eeQJrHVE #artificialintelligence #technology #business

Shout out to Lauryn Groce and Hannah Siefert and team that put on a great event! ???? This was actually my first networking event related to sports - and I got a chance to meet some great people. 3 Things I learned from the speakers: 1. “Micro Mentoring” anyone can be an expert in your circle in topics you may not excel in, at the minimum a friend 2. Successful leaders are intuitive but even more just want to learn as much as they can from areas that intrigue them - to then be a resource for multiple people in a organization. My favorite line was a “Swiss army knife” 3. Goals can look a lot of different ways and everyone may not understand your vision - so understand the business goals and relate those down to your long term vision no matter what your title is

Now that the European Championships have concluded and Gareth Southgate has completed his eight-year tenure as England Manager, public opinion seems divided on his success. If we likened this to a business, eight years ago it might have been said to be on the verge of bankruptcy with poor results, demotivated staff, and significant underperformance. Since Gareth's appointment, he has statistically revitalised the team, which no longer operates in isolated groups, akin to a business's workforce. However, the customers (England supporters) harbour mixed feelings about his tenure, despite him being the most successful manager in nearly six decades. If these customers were to rate the team(company) on Google, it's uncertain how many would award five stars. Many business coaches believe in winning or learning. It could be argued that Southgate's cautious approach at Euro 2020 indicates he hasn't learned, continuing with a defensive strategy and a mindset more fearful of losing than eager to win. Having worked with numerous business owners and managing directors, I've observed that taking risks is often necessary for progression rather than remaining static. It will be intriguing to see who succeeds him and their chosen strategy. Are you pro or against Southgate during his term as England manager?
