I was just talking yesterday about Scottish Outer Isles sustainable marine connectivity. May I suggest that Central & Devolved Government should study and embrace Rolls Royce's innovative, carbon efficient, marine propulsion solution. This will encourage zero carbon, all battery propulsion systems for smaller craft. Then what we need to focus on is building port-side electrical infrastructure plus beefing up the local supply network at LV-substation. At night, when ferry ops are suspended, these vessels will create a virtual portside power hub thru V2X, delivering power network distribution resilience. Good to be at Motor Transport’s Decarbonisation Summit in Birmingham - always a great opportunity to take stock on where we’re at and are going on #NetZero. The opening presentation given by ? Sam Clarke ? of GRIDSERVE demonstrates how far we need to go to decarbonise HGVs. An opportunity therefore for me to test how the Road Haulage Association (RHA)’s structured approach to breaking down the structural barriers that prevent the rapid introduction of zero emission HGVs and coaches on our roads can be refined. With over 300 registered electric HGVs on our roads, we have made a start - but so much more needs to be done. A clear message already from today to fleets is - start preparing your fleets for #NetZero. If nothing else, that means getting a plan in place to show how your emissions can be brought down over time.
