??: https://hubs.la/Q02MVfJD0 As a new nursing graduate, it’s important to understand that not all nurse residency programs that extend a job offer are the same. Because of this, you must take several things into consideration like your intuition, the job location, and the size of the unit. Karen A. Clarke, MSN, RN, NPD-BC (Allicock), breaks it all down.

On this day last year, I didn't expect to be good at what I saw a nursing officer do. We were introduced to the wards for the inception of our clinical rotations as 2nd year nursing students. It was the paediatrics ward, and we had about 9 patients in the cots and beds respectively. While introducing the ward to us, I was in awe to see the nurse identify all patients in the ward, their diagnoses, as well as the medications they were placed on. ?? I felt it was a superhero ability that not everyone could do. Could I be a superhero, too? I was just about to be proved right when after 12 weeks of concentrated clinical postings in my 3rd year, I was able to do that, too. It was surprising how the medications and their side effects suddenly came naturally to me. Even after leaving the ward, the experiences there remained fresh. For me, it's a philosophy that what you concentrate on is what you get. This is known as a learning curve. In the beginning, everything felt like a huge challenge, like climbing a mountain. But as I kept observing, learning and practising, things started to get easier, and the mountain didn't seem so high anymore. This journey from feeling overwhelmed to gradually getting better at something is exactly what the curve is all about. It's amazing how, with time and effort, what once seemed impossible becomes part of what you can do. Not saying I've learned all I need for nursing practice, but I'm no longer where I used to be. Perhaps someday, I'd be that superhero I saw and more! Have you ever gone through a learning curve like this? How did it feel? #nurses #linkedinnurses #students #linkedinforcreators

Great article, and a good start on the conversation needed toward the post-election new European Commission administration safeguarding the contributions of #NursingStudents. In this context, for every 4 full-time nurses, you need one student nurse to complete the full course towards graduation and start a career track in a specialization. Additionally, for every ten student nurses, you need one full-time Nurse Educator. A simple conservative calculation leads to the figure that we need at least 500,000 student nurses for normal succession, considering the aging nursing population and raise in call for higher education levels and specialsiations. This means we need 50,000 full-time #NurseEducators who are well-facilitated and rewarded. Note that Nurse Educators have a lower salary position. There is a stark decline in nursing students. In Hungary, there was an average of at least 80 nurses graduating, but this year it's only 20. Overal in Europe, this a very concerning decline of students entering the nursing profession, not even mentioed ti dropout: during study and post graduation. I think it's good to see the #TimeToAct initiative and the Bucharest Declaration come into practice and create a business plan around it. By doing so, we can save the status of the wonderful younger generation entering this profession, opening up a great spectrum of opportunities for them. Benedicte Molnes Cécile Dury Dr. Daniela Lehwaldt ?? join me in these conversation during the ESNO congress in June Milan and the ICN/ANP congress in September in Aberdeen.
“When compassion becomes a calling: inspirational journeys of student nurses from across the European Region” During International Nursing Week, I'm proud to have contributed my testimony as a nursing student about my motivations regarding my journey since I started pursuing a nursing career, the key challenges encountered as well as my aspirations looking to the future as a nurse after graduation! A special word of thanks to Nick Fry for making this interview and publication possible. WHO Regional Office for Europe #youth4health Full article: https://lnkd.in/dXQs4ynU

I am a University of Iowa BSN. The last quote in the article needs to be read and repeated, by all #nursingleadership. Myrtle Aydelotte (1972), founding Dean and Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, shared: "What is needed is a reexamination of nursing leadership and a new thrust forward. Nursing leadership must reorient itself and restructure itself in such a way that nursing education and practice are inseparable, are symbolic, and are united in purpose" (1972, p.23). Academic-Practice partnerships need to go beyond just clinical experience opportunities, and instead focus on preparing the next generation of nurses #together. This is a defining moment, not just in nursing education, but in #highereducation. Perhaps we need to change the model of where nursing curriculum is housed. The regulations of higher education can be confining for nursing programs. Perhaps we need to examine our purpose with practice and forge a new path.

Should Nursing Skills be Learned on the Job or in Nursing School? My question “Should Nursing Skills Be Learned on the Job?” As a Health Equity Education Coach, I help academic nurse leaders bypass the trial & error of common mistakes in teaching equity, diversity and inclusion so that students are prepared for the rigor of practice. Thanks for joining this conversation today. It is the season of the Nurse! We celebrate nurses for all of the amazing ways we enrich healthcare. Lets celebrate from the nursing student all the way up to the Chief Nurse Officers. All of our work counts and matters. This month I want to focus in on nursing students. I don’t know if we give them enough attention, but from what I am seeing, we can do better. Recently, nursing students have shared with me that feel that they upon leave nursing school they are not getting as much skills training as they need. Do you think we should focus more on teaching skills in nursing school or on the job? Share your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/e4d9Qidn
