Over the last 18 months, we have been deploying the latest cutting-edge technology as part of our rollout of next-generation upgrades that will enhance the reach and speed of the nbn Fixed Wireless network.? In January, we launched a national pilot to introduce the required network changes that will help deliver higher speeds for our existing Fixed Wireless Plus wholesale plan - which is our most popular plan - without any change to the wholesale price. Our extensive network testing data shows that many customers have seen an uplift to both the average and peak download wholesale speeds since the pilot commenced.?? This isn’t all we are doing. By mid-2024, we intend to launch two new high-speed plans that will offer even faster speeds across the nbn Fixed Wireless Network. They are Fixed Wireless Home Fast, which will aim to deliver potential peak speeds of 250/20Mbps, and Fixed Wireless Superfast, which will aim to deliver potential peak speeds of 400/40Mbps.? I am extremely excited about what these changes can enable for our regional communities.

Six reasons why the BT Group -7% share price reaction to the Sky/CityFibre deal seems overblown 1.??????The deal was already largely expected to happen at some point 2.??????Even if it was to involve the full migration of all of Sky’s broadband customers to all of CityFibre’s fully-built out network it would equate to less than 5% of UK broadband lines (24% of the country to ultimately be covered by CityFibre times Sky’s broadband market share of 23%), equivalent to 1.4m customers ? 3.??????The above is a worst-case scenario over a very protracted period for Openreach as the deal appears to only plan to use CityFibre where the Openreach network is not (Openreach fibre is in 40% of the CityFibre area currently and rising rapidly), and Sky is very unlikely to migrate customers already signed up to Openreach ? 4.??????Openreach is losing 600k customers a year to altnets (2-3% market share), which the company is comfortable with. The maximum Openreach, long-term, 1.4m customer exposure to the CityFibre/Sky deal is very manageable within the current line-loss trend, particularly as many of those losses will be instead of losses to the altnets as the doubling of CityFibre's network from here is very likely to be largely driven by altnet consolidation ? 5.??????The CityFibre/Sky deal makes it much more likely that most of the altnets will consolidate into a wholesale model around CityFibre, exiting the retail market and vastly reducing ?pressure on BT Consumer (as well as other ISPs such as TalkTalk and Virgin Media). Analyst valuations of BT are typically split 50/50 Openreach/rest of the business ? 6.??????Openreach returns on its fibre investment will ultimately be determined by a rate of return determined by Ofcom and, as such, these returns are guaranteed whatever share of the market it might end with (save for some doomsday scenario). In many ways, if wholesale competitors to Openreach continue to operate in the market then Ofcom will be reluctant to aggressively drive down Openreach’s regulated pricing for fear of putting its competitors out of business (given their need to discount relative to Openreach pricing) James Barford Katharine Lindsay Hamish Low Enders Analysis
