A big financial boost for workforce development is coming to Atlanta's westside. The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation is giving nearly $4.5 million to Atlanta Technical College, Goodwill of North Georgia and the Atlanta Department of Labor and Employment Services for job training and other workforce development initiatives. Keynote Speaker | Corporate Trainer | Storyteller Extraordinaire | Social Justice Warrior | Community Connector | Creator, Ascending Leaders in Color | Asset-Based Language Auditor | Hornet Nest Stirrer
Good Morning My LinkedIn Peeps: It's hard to believe that just one year ago, I launched the first two pilot cohort groups for something I called #AscendingLeadersInColor, a protected space for Leaders of Color to authentically be REAL, to RECONNECT with other peeps of color, and to RECLAIM every part of who they are! ???? ???? And now here we are, a year later and 98 days from expanding 4 Da Hood's ALC program from 5 to 13! On September 5, the first of five new cohorts will launch that month! And for the first time ever, three white affinity cohorts will debut! That's a total of EIGHT new cohorts! ???????????????? My goal is to enroll 30 leaders of color and 10-20 white allies within Pima County, AZ, with an additional 20 leaders of color and 10-20 white allies outside of Pima County, AZ and across the globe! ??? ??? ??? I'm also implementing a new pricing structure which uses The Green Bottle Method. It's origin came from a blog titled?"The Sliding Scale: A Tool of Economic Justice"?by Alexis J. Cunningfolk. She shares that?a "sliding scale?is a tool that allows for a product or service to be obtained at multiple price points based on the circumstances of the purchaser. This method?allows folks who would most likely be priced out of something to have the chance to take part in it." It also seeks to address the systemic inequalities of race and class in our culture, which are inextricably linked in our country. If you are interested in joining #AscendingLeadersInColor, reflect on the Green Bottle Method (link below).?After honestly assessing which “bottle” best describes your financial situation, determine what you’re able to pay towards participation in the nine-month program, then DM me: (1) Perhaps you’re well-resourced and able to contribute beyond the full cost per participant. Please do so. Your contribution enables us to offer scholarships to those in need. (2) Perhaps you’re securely resourced, and able to meet all of your financial needs and wants. Contribute $1,999 for the full cost of in-person participation or $1,799 for the full cost of virtual participation. (3) Perhaps you’re moderately resourced, and able to meet your financial needs and some wants. Contribute $1,499 (in-person) or $1,299 (virtual) depending on your capacity. (4) Perhaps you’re not able to bear $1,499 for in-person or $1,299 for virtual. We encourage you to reach out to us so we can talk things through. We’ll do our absolute best to help you join the ALC Movement! It would be truly amazing to have you be a part of this amazing program! I don't want any barriers to prevent you from joining ALC! 4dahood.com/cohort-dates https://lnkd.in/gjGjw-yy

Do something meaningful this year for Black History Month. Immerse yourself in the food, culture, and history of Boston’s neighborhoods of color, focusing on the impact of redlining. As we all know, the effect of redlining still exists, and it’s still affecting communities of color within the Boston area. Redlining is a policy enforced by banks and government agencies that deny loans, mortgages, and other financial services to people living in predominantly Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous neighborhoods. Although discriminatory practices such as these were banned over 50 years ago, minorities are still dealing with the consequences of redlining and the perpetuated cycles of inequality holding back the progress of these vibrant communities. As we work towards a more equitable and just future, it is crucial to acknowledge and address the lingering effects of redlining in Boston and to ensure genuine inclusive growth and prosperity for all. Join Live Like a Local Tours Boston CEO, Collin Knight and founder of Afrimerican Academy, MARLON SOLOMON, on February 3rd, in the middle of Roxbury’s Nubian Square! Learn more about neighborhoods of color on this captivating tour, where you’ll enjoy some good food, support local businesses, and learn about the past and present history of redlining. Book now by visiting https://lnkd.in/dAGMRiT4 Join us in learning more about redlining, and how they impact Boston’s neighborhoods of color. #nubiansquare #roxbury #bostonfood #bostontours #bostonhistory #blackboston

Building Bridges: Healing the Wounds of Black Wall Street The bombings of Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1921, remain a tragic chapter in American history, highlighting the necessity for continual development and change in society through actionable plans and steps. ?? This horrific event, which saw the destruction of a prosperous African American community by a white mob, underscores the urgent need to address systemic racism, inequality, and injustice that continue to plague our nation. In the aftermath of such tragedies, it becomes imperative for individuals and communities to come together, harnessing their individual strengths, abilities, and ethical responsibilities to enact meaningful change. ???? First and foremost, the bombings of Black Wall Street serve as a stark reminder of the enduring legacy of racial violence and discrimination in America. It underscores the importance of confronting the root causes of systemic racism and working towards a more equitable and inclusive society for all. ?? This requires actionable plans and steps that address structural inequalities in education, employment, housing, and criminal justice, while also fostering dialogue, empathy, and understanding across racial divides. ?? It's crucial for every citizen to be actively involved in these efforts, not just first responders, as we all have a role to play in creating a more just society. Moreover, the bombings of Black Wall Street highlight the power of collective action and community resilience in the face of adversity. In the aftermath of the tragedy, survivors and their descendants rebuilt their community from the ashes, demonstrating the strength and determination of the human spirit. This resilience underscores the importance of empowering individuals and communities to take ownership of their futures, advocate for their rights, and actively participate in the processes of social and economic change. ?? Each citizen's involvement is vital in ensuring that communities can heal and rebuild together. In addition, the bombings of Black Wall Street shed light on the complex interplay between economic and social factors in shaping the fabric of society. This is exemplified by the later years of civil rights leaders Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., who, despite their ideological differences, found common ground in their advocacy for economic justice and social equality. Through their respective visions of economic empowerment and nonviolent resistance, they sought to uplift marginalized communities and dismantle systems of oppression that perpetuated poverty and inequality. ?? As citizens, we must continue to engage in dialogue and action to address economic disparities and promote equality for all members of society. Furthermore, the bombings of Black Wall Street underscore the ethical responsibility of individuals and institutions to confront injustice and promote human dignity. It requires a commitment to upholding principles of

A few days ago Stephen A Smith decided to not only act as though Detroit is a wasteland outside of downtown, when he walked it back he basically mentioned that “He understands Detroit because the suburbs are nice.” On Instagram I posted a video that’s a snippet of a reel I use to show how beautiful Detroit is in many neighborhoods. If that interests you, you can check it out here (https://lnkd.in/eh-Z8gt9) On linkedin, I want to have a more indepth and tactical discussion. Detroit is a city of peaks and valleys, but what is not is your grandparents' misconception of it from the 80’s. Some neighborhoods have been beautiful since the ’40s. The idea that “a city doesn’t have value once a certain demographic leaves” is steeped in bigotry and racism. Take that however you want. And yes, Black people can internalize that racism too. Detroit didn’t suddenly company comeback to life when a certain billionaire came back or a certain guy became mayor. It back “More digestable to people who so themselves in their explaination for the vision of Detroit.” A more welcoming city for a demographic that left. I am not going to say that Detroit has not risen to a degree from the actions of some visionaries. That would be intellectually dishonest. What I will say is that there seems to be a DISTINCT difference in the time of people the powers that be (government, philanthropy, corporations) will invest in…or see as worthy of catalyst. In the last 3-5 years or so I’ve seen a shift in the understanding that groups have been and are being left behind. A slow understanding of why and the racial, economic, and bias that perpetuates that. Which is heartening. But the feeling that Stephen A Smith has is mostly a feeling, perpetuated by a news cycle that continues to spread that nonsense, promoted by folks who’s history memory of the city is outdated, and are unfortunately closer to Stephen A Smith than the boots on the ground working to preserve and grow the city every day. Lastly, Lions goin’ to the Super Bowl! Fight witcha self about it. #EndRant

Atlanta has been ranked the best city to start a career by WalletHub, scoring 65.84 points in a study evaluating 182 urban centers based on Professional Opportunities and Quality of Life. Despite its economic success, with an 8.9% annual increase in median household income and a thriving job market, Atlanta faces a significant racial wealth gap, with white families earning significantly more than Black families. Efforts to address this disparity include a $1.7 million grant from JPMorgan Chase to the Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative for fostering equity in Black businesses and neighborhoods. FYI: According to the report Milwaukee is ranked 122.

Chicago Commons' development team is doing a thing- a BIG thing! It's time to celebrate 130 years of transformative change in and around the city of Chicago. Join us on May 10th for our anniversary gala at Morgan Manufacturing as we honor those who support our mission as well as participants of Chicago Commons' programs who are doing the hard work of providing for the children, families, and seniors in their lives and building strong communities. We are "Honoring the Past and Building the Future." For tickets: https://lnkd.in/gEaj8hiF For fun, what else happened 130 years ago in 1894? 1. The Pullman Strike began. If you don't know the history of this one, please look it up. It's fascinating and very important to labor history. 2. The Tower Bridge in London opened to traffic. 3. Norman Rockwell and Jack Benny are born. 4. William Kennedy Dickson?receives a patent for?motion picture?film in the United States. 5. An extreme national economic depression hit the US in 1894 leading to factories closing and mass unemployment and poverty. 6. Chicago Commons was founded on May 1 by Graham Taylor...but this isn't in Wikipedia's "1894" entry - although I can change that, I suppose.
