I have a professional update to celebrate (and others to come!). I have been selected the 2024 Educator of the Year by the Minnesota State Board of Trustees. This is the highest honor award for excellence in teaching in the entire Minnesota State system. Only 4 are selected out of dozens of applications. I am grateful to have several mentors and inspiring students in my professional journey who motivated me to pursue better and more innovative ways to delivery my teaching and to connect students to more relatable experiences and real world examples with maintaining high academic rigor. Some of my innovations include mixing a traditional course on Labor Economics with a study abroad component, jigsaw activities to discussed peer-reviewed articles, simulations of immigration process experiences, Pre and Post Debates, self introductions in online courses with sharing gratitude and savoring experiences, and incorporating students to real data to analyze local issues. Further, my activities also include direct discussions on equity, disparities, implicit bias, and examples that demystify the economics profession. #IlookLikeAnEconomist

Education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it's a powerful equalizer that can transform lives and societies. Quality education and academic excellence are fundamental in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all. In a world where access to education is still unequal, we must strive to make quality education accessible to everyone, regardless of their background. It's not just about getting a degree; it's about empowering individuals to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. As someone deeply passionate about education and its transformative power, I believe that investing in education is investing in a better future for all.

One thing I am most excited about at Foundation for Excellence is our alumni— they truly energize me for so many reasons. They are living examples of the success of our mission to transform lives, and their achievements continue to inspire us all. a. Mission Success: Our alumni embody the success of FFE's mission. They are the proof that education can transform lives, and they demonstrate the power of opportunity and determination. b. Professional Excellence: Our alumni have excelled in diverse fields, from technology and engineering to medicine and even the Indian Administrative Services. Their accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and dedication. c. Social Responsibility: Beyond their professional success, our alumni have developed into responsible citizens who give back to society and FFE in numerous ways. Their involvement in the "Circle of Giving" is particularly inspiring, as they support the next generation of scholars with generosity and commitment. d. Role Models: As role models, our alumni inspire others to pursue excellence and strive for success. They lead by example, showing the world what can be achieved through education, perseverance, and community. I am extremely proud of our alumni and their involvement in the "Circle of Giving." Their dedication to giving back and supporting others is what makes FFE's mission not just a goal but a thriving reality. Together, we will continue to transform lives and foster excellence. Why is Marxism taught at UW? It is an ideology of hate that promotes violence, class warfare, dictatorship of the proletariat, treating humans not as individuals but as members of a class. No country has benefited from Marxism. Marxism is responsible for 200 million deaths in the 20th century. The University of Washington should not hire Marxists for the same reason they should not hire Nazis. Can someone please explain what is going on at UW?

Love this picture, because it reminds me of the time Manuel Guerra and Ryan West of Chemeketa Community College breached their Fiduciary Duty by telling me to file suit or complaints with the very parties they’ve close to, such as this one, and the Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, while providing no avenue to dispute resolution and implying I couldn’t represent myself otherwise, in their investigation which deviated from internal policy. Specifically, Ryan West, Manuel Guerra, and Keith Russell failed to provide a 3rd party independent investigation into my Discrimination and Harassment. If they write their own rules, while justifying the perfect defense against bad behavior, shouldn’t you be aware this was against #504 #IEP #IdeaLaws #ADA #Laws? Clearly the college doesn’t care about human life when the tactics used to silence my claims are the same tactics used to retain a sexual predator only 4 months later. Seemingly, the easier solution is to hire people with fake credentials, duping the college in the very thing they’ve made me certified. This while weaponizing their connection with police training to threaten police violence for my advocacy. I’m further amused some administrators are blocking me. For those who have elected themselves to be responsible educators, it seems either seeing or dealing with the truth of what you’ve done to your students is simply too much of a burden to bear on behalf of the very specific people who did this to me, to my face, without remorse and full awareness of the evil they were doing. Face accountability, stop running and hiding, it’s the worst possible response from an academic institution such as Chemeketa Community College and the CHEMEKETA CLASSIFIED ASSOCIATION who are associated by default. State-Funded IDAs (Individual Development Accounts): Washington’s Community Reinvestment Project (CRP) reintroduces state-supported IDAs, offering low-income individuals matched savings up to $10,000 for education, homeownership, and business development. Similar to investments in neighboring states like Oregon and California, enhancing economic mobility and stability by providing essential financial tools to build long-term assets. Focus on Underemployment: The CRP and Poverty Reduction Workgroup are driving a shift in Washington’s workforce system to address underemployment alongside unemployment. Programs like the EcSA Career Accelerator provide financial incentives, job training, financial coaching, and asset-building opportunities, integrating diverse services to support long-term financial stability and prevent economic crises. Small Business Grant Program: Washington’s CRP launched its first Small Business Grant Program, focusing on equitable economic development for underserved communities. Engaging over 820 Black, Latine, and Tribal-owned businesses, the program offers grants, workforce development support, and subsidized training for hiring and skills development. Business Navigators assist with resources to drive operations growth, promote good-paying careers, and dismantle systemic barriers, fostering economic stability and job creation in historically marginalized communities.
