Dragons' Den Dragons Den is a business program for potential aspiring entrepreneurs and business folk to pitch businesses to a selected panel of businessmen/women a popular formula now franshised. The US has a similar setup called the Shark Tank, I think. Today Mr Duncan Bannatyne, former Dragon offered his thoughts on life and the program*. Astutely he declares that I wouldn't pitch on Dragons' Den as I have always retained 100% per cent of the businesses I have invested in. Duncan is a powerful businessman with a sincere backstory- he sold ice cream from vans and founded care homes and also got into trouble facts he openly declares and doesn't try to hide- something like that. I thought the revelation about not pitching on the show you front as a star Dragon unusual. For example he must've pitched when exiting his care home businesses to someone? The businesses that come up on the show are like a box of chocolates, the type you find at conferences at the entrance. You never know what you'll get but you get something, a short sugar rush or a mint. Are they businesses, who knows? Do they last, perhaps? Do they generate recurring revenues and compound as businesses, maybe? Do they have high free cash flow generated? I think a high portion aren't commercially viable businesses at all. Many are economically unsound. A few are financial deathtraps. Duncan speaks about his lifestyle and spending/saving and investing in bonds with high interest rates. He also tells us he's a Revolut customer. An interesting businessman. *Source: UK press various 19.2.2024.

Founder of Drays, Pat Dooling shares his Journey from former Investor to entrepreneurship. He shares about the benefits of sobriety meaning better physical health, relationships and his why behind founding Boston's first non alcoholic bottle shop. What a great episode, please listen, rate and share. My favorite part was when he shared his experience of the drinking culture within ivy league schools, graduate school and working in high pressure organizations. This demonstrates the degree of difficulty one entails when attempting to remove alcohol. How is your organization supporting wellness rather than self destruction?

Supporting entrepreneurs who live, work, and circulate their income in Oakland, CA, is essential for creating a more inclusive and vibrant local economy. Alicia Kidd founder and CEO of Coco Noir, is one powerful example of the persistence and resilience required to thrive in industries historically excluding Black women, such as the wine industry. Black women face a unique set of challenges when entering this space—from representation to securing adequate funding and overcoming barriers to accessing industry and City resources. These roadblocks, paired with the industry's lack of diversity, make it difficult for BIPOC women to enter and scale within the sector. However, entrepreneurs like Alicia Kidd are pushing back, leading the way for others while highlighting the importance of equitable access to funding, and City resources. Supporting local entrepreneurs like her means investing in the city of Oakland and ensuring women in industries like wine will have a more level playing field. Let’s uplift and support entrepreneurs who live and build in Oakland, especially those breaking barriers and redefining the status quo. Their success is our community’s success! #CoCoNoir #SabaNguzo #EconomicEmpowerment?#Entrepreneurship #SupportOakland
