Today is #WorldStudentDay (Yes, there's a day for everything) After I finished college, I went to the University of Kent with the hopes of becoming a sports scientist and working with some of the best athletes and footballers. But life, as it often does, takes you on a different path. After: -Three years -Multiple exams -A 10,000-word dissertation on asthma in athletes -Nights out -And some questionable cooking skills ?? I now find myself working as a digital marketer whilst running my own football brand, @LifeofBallers. It's funny how life works. No regrets though. University wasn't the right path for me But it taught me a valuable lesson: Do what you love to do and don’t conform to everyone else’s standards. Last night, a dream became reality. We officially launched?The Academic Athlete, and I’m beyond excited to share this moment with everyone. ? While I’m still proudly serving as President of MDS Engineering, I realized I needed to take on a project that goes beyond the office walls—a project that could truly impact others and give back to the community that shaped me. ? This isn’t just an organization—it’s personal. Many people see the version of me today and have no idea where I came from. Growing up in Baltimore, I was an only child constantly moving around in neighborhoods where drugs and violence were everyday realities. Like so many kids in similar situations, I thought becoming a pro-athlete was my only way out. ? But life had other plans. I discovered the power of education—specifically STEM—and it completely changed my path.?My background in engineering taught me that success doesn’t have to come from a single narrative. That’s why I created?The Academic Athlete: to help young people see that they are more than one dream, and there are countless ways to achieve greatness. ? Last night’s celebration wasn’t just about the launch; it was about hope, opportunity, and creating a future where student-athletes see their potential beyond the field. Surrounded by an amazing community of friends, mentors, and supporters, we took the first step toward making that vision a reality. ? Our mission is simple:?bridge the gap between sports and academics. With STEM and STEAM programs, mentorship, and hands-on opportunities, we’re here to empower youth to dream bigger, work harder, and achieve success that lasts. ? This is only the beginning.
