Is a B.Ed. a ticket to good teaching? How would you define a good teacher? When we think about recruiting for teaching positions, it's surprising to see that there's often a lack of a proper process in place. While obtaining a B.Ed. is often considered a basic requirement for teaching positions, it's worth noting that the program may not always provide sufficient practical experience or internships. As a result, graduates may enter the workforce lacking crucial hands-on training in classroom management, lesson planning, and student engagement techniques. This lack of practicality in B.Ed. programs raise questions about whether a B.Ed. alone serves as a 'ticket to good teaching.' Simply holding a degree in education does not guarantee the ability to effectively educate and inspire students. This gap can lead to various challenges in the education system. One major reason for this issue is the high demand for teachers. With a constant need for educators, especially in certain subjects or regions, schools, and educational institutions may feel pressured to fill vacancies quickly rather than thoroughly vetting candidates. Another factor is the complexity of teaching itself. Being a teacher requires a unique set of skills beyond just subject knowledge. Effective teachers need to be able to engage students, manage classrooms, adapt to diverse learning needs, and more. And for the 21st century, it has become a more sensitive issue, and we need to be more equipped. We need to have SOPs in place that ensure not only academic qualifications but also practical skills and a passion for teaching. So, what can be done to address these issues? Are you interested in becoming a teacher and you have a bachelor's degree but it's not in Education? Consider PDE's Intern Certification Route. PDE is now waiving the cost for the Intern Certification Application! Educators possessing an Intern Certificate can enter the classroom and teach for up to three years prior to earning their Instructional I Certificate. ? Individuals with an Intern Certificate have passed the content test demonstrating that they have the knowledge to teach in a content area and must only complete their professional core education work and student teaching before becoming fully certified. Rather than re-applying every year for an Emergency Permit, interns have certificates valid for three years of service, giving them the chance to complete their student teaching while working and getting paid as a teacher of record. ? Example: an individual possessing a bachelor’s degree in English who is currently on Emergency Permit as a Secondary Education 7-12 teacher may elect to take the English Language Arts: Content Knowledge Praxis examination. Certainly! As a dedicated teacher, I often contemplate the timing of progressing to the next topic during a lesson. It's vital to gauge whether to move forward once the material has been covered or hold off until the students have fully comprehended the current topic. I firmly believe that a new topic should only commence once the students have grasped the previous one. Embarking on an internship at a government high school in close proximity recently shed light on the dire state of the students. Upon teaching class 9 students about the topic "Voice," I was astounded to discover that they lacked knowledge of basic grammar concepts such as subject, predicate, tense, verbs, and parts of speech. In a class of forty students, only a couple were familiar with these foundational concepts. Confronted with this situation, I am resolute in my conviction about what should be done. Should I merely forge ahead to cover the syllabus? No, as a teacher, it is against my principles. Regardless of the effort required, it is my unwavering duty to equip them for a better future. #Agree

Transformation Children Rehab Center is launching a career-focused trainings in visual programming for neurodiverse learners. This program uses visual programming tools like Octostudio and Scratch, both developed by the MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong Kindergarten group. This program will teach neurodiverse children, teens, and young adults on the autism spectrum how to use these tools to create interactive games and stories. The program will teach skills that are in high demand and directly applicable to career opportunities. One of the top trends in #careerandtechnicaleducation is early interactions with business. There's even a tool -- KnoPro by NAF. "KnoPro, a free digital tool for students 13+, provides them with the ability to participate in authentic business projects with mentorship from industry professionals and chances to win prize money."
