I went fractional a little over two months ago and I'm loving the fact that I'm: -Free to say yes to cool new creative projects (from workshops to TV shows) -Way less stressed -Have control of my schedule and discovered the magical powers of mid-day naps -Somehow still paying the bills just fine My hot take: This is going to change the way we build teams. "Fractional" has taken the stigma out of freelance. And smart team leaders are tapping into this growing talent pool. I honestly like the term “fractional.” It clearly defines expectations. I’ve taken on too many consultant roles where (especially during the lockdowns) the expectations for time and energy commitment was for full-time work. Only the pay was fractional haha

We’re dating rather than getting married and then having to go through an ugly divorce. The need for flexibility in uncertain times gives companies and those who work for them in this capacity the best possible situations.

I agree to your list of benefits a lot. I often wonder why I didn't start earlier. I'd add the joy of cross-polination between different jobs. Learning in one company and implementing it in the second right after. I think that benefit will become more and more visible.

Joe, yes! How do you manage your capacity? E.g., aim for ~80% utilization to keep some flexibility for those exciting projects that pop up? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Yes, I love it. Also, remote work has made fractional even easier, low overhead, less time commuting, off shore pricing - all come into play. For example, the expertise of the "freelance" video production community has long provided superior value to the alternative of trying to employ a talented and skilled video production team as long term employees. The best in the industry want freedom, choices and A-players suffer bullshit meetings far less. Use what you need, when you need.
