The Founder Fellowship is NYCEDC’s signature program designed to support underrepresented tech entrepreneurs across New York City with access to capital, networks, and other ways to scale their startups. The 2025 edition will serve up to 75 startup teams (!!!) through five unique cohorts hosted by Chloe Capital, Company Ventures, Gold House, Newlab, and Visible Hands. Nearly $1 million in dilutive and non-dilutive funding will be invested from private sector partners into a subset of Fellow teams, and OpenAI will offer $5,000 of API credits to each participating team. This past fall, the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology?(FCAT) and American Underground announced the formation of the FCAT Fellowship—a joint venture that will identify and support motivated startup founders with “significant access to tech resources and growth support.” Founders comprising of this inaugural cohort wrapped up their active participation in the program last night by presenting their startups at the FCAT Fellowship Demo Day at the Carolina Theatre. Valentina Wieltsch's dissertation exploring the influence of language used in startup pitches on the evaluation process of corporate accelerators is undoubtedly a significant contribution to the field. The meticulous analysis and insightful findings offer valuable insights into the dynamics of accelerator-st startup interactions. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that the scope of the research may have limitations. The reliance on data from a limited group and region might restrict the generalizability of the findings beyond that specific context, potentially limiting its relevance for startups pitching outside Germany. While the unique and powerful data utilized in the study offer depth and richness to the analysis, it's important to recognize the need for broader cross-cultural and cross-regional perspectives to ensure the applicability of the findings in diverse startup ecosystems. Furthermore, the dissertation's reliance on funding from eXplore, while beneficial for the research process, raises questions about potential biases or influences on the study's outcomes. Transparency regarding funding sources and their potential impact on research findings is essential for maintaining academic integrity and credibility. Overall, while Valentina Wieltsch's dissertation represents a commendable scholarly effort, future research endeavors could benefit from addressing these limitations to enhance the breadth and relevance of the findings for a broader audience and diverse startup landscapes.

"What an incredible journey!" New startup founders from across Leicestershire’s three universities have been reflecting on their time as the first cohort of the VentureVersity programme. The Research England funded collaboration between Leicester Startups, University of Leicester, De Montfort University and Loughborough University came to an end in November at a live pitching showcase. The year long programme, which aimed to turn academic ideas from the three universities into commercially viable businesses, was praised at the event at Space Park Leicester by participants. When VCs say they want to support female led startups most times they say it because these days it’s the popular thing to say in the ecosystem. When you ask them, how much do you set aside yearly to invest in female led startups they can’t answer that. But you see Sheventures FCMB working and not just talking. Through their Herccelerate program a tech accelerator designed specifically to support women-led tech startups, positioning them for funding and rapid growth, they have churned out incredible sets of female founders with incredible products. Today I attended HERccelerate Showcase Day where Female founders pitched to get equity-free capital and access to a pool of investors. Big congratulations to the winners as well as the organizers. Thank you to every one who made it to the 2024 #UNSWDemoDay, to support Givewrap and our little team of big-dreaming misfits. The overwhelming amount of love for the Brand and its mission, is still something I'm pinching myself about every day. It's such a funny thing.. As a Founder, you can have such a strong and clear vision about what it is you want to create and build. But because it's still so early on in the the journey, it's hard to know how to actually get there, to properly make that big dream into a reality. I guess from my experience, what it's come down to, is finding those other crazy dreamers, who see what you see. Who have the same conviction, courage and unrelenting passion, to go on that journey with you. So to Ant Hatton & Hans Christian Berents - my Co-Founders, my battle brothers and my best friends.
