Since Sunday am in Antwerp visiting the ADVN | archief voor nationale bewegingen with Prof. Fiona McConnell McConnell and Dr. Alex Manby from the university of Oxford. Looking at all this hundreds of boxes with minutes of meetings, discussions, reports, conferences, training materials… more than 33 years of Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization work. I am amazed to look at all the amount work that has been done by incredibly committed Staff and members. Reading through the archives I can not avoid getting emotional with the evidence of activities, projects and achievements that have brought a real positive change to the live thousands of Peoples. At the same time, I am thankful to learn from the difficulties, moments of hesitation, missteps and crisis that the organisation has had to face and survive through its existence. Both, challenges and successes are key to understand the past, the present and the future. Even if I am conscious to be a small raindrop within the organisation history, I am aware of how important is that I keep institutional knowledge and memory to prevent the loss of critical insights and expertise. Nowadays we are too busy, too distracted, too centered in ourselves that we forget hearing from the experience of those who have preceded us. But with lessons from the past we not only learn about who we are today, we also develop the ability to avoid mistakes and develop stronger organisations, become better persons, create better paths for our societies. Time to time we should all oblige ourselves to put an “out of the office “ message in our incredibly busy schedules, seat in silence, look at the archives, learn from the past and think how we can build a better future. Read, learn, think …. … … then Act.

Join the CERFA Rapid Fire Talks 2024! Do you have fascinating research you'd like to share? This is your moment! Take part in our Rapid Fire Talks during the CERFA Symposium, which will take place on November 9, 2024, at the Instituto Cervantes in Munich. Present your work in 3 minutes and compete for prizes of 100 EUR and 50 EUR. Presentations are free in terms of the topic and do not need to be related to the event's theme, so feel free to share any research you're passionate about! How to participate? Submit an abstract (title + 150 words in English) by October 1, 2024. Prepare your talk: 3 minutes to present, 2 minutes for questions. Be concise, captivating, and stand out! Prizes: 100 EUR for first place. 50 EUR for second place. Winner selection: 50% by the jury and 50% by on-site audience voting via our app (just like Eurovision). What else?
