Survivors of domestic and sexual violence deserve access to life-saving services. The Crime Victims Fund is critical in supporting shelters, crisis centers, and other essential services for victims. For True North of Columbia, this funding helps sustain emergency shelter, advocacy, and support services for survivors in our community. Join me in calling on Congress to pass the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFS Act) before the end of the year. This act will redirect unused funds from the False Claims Act to stabilize the Crime Victims Fund, preventing further catastrophic cuts to domestic and sexual violence service providers nationwide. Without immediate action, organizations that provide vital services will face devastating cuts, leaving countless survivors without support. Call Congress today and urge them to protect these crucial resources!
Survivors of domestic and sexual violence deserve access to life-saving services. Call Congress TODAY to urge them to pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFS Act). Congress must pass the bipartisan CVFS Act before the end of the year to prevent devastating cuts to the Victims of Crime Act. The CVFS Act would redirect excess, unobligated funds from the False Claims Act (FCA) to the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to prevent further catastrophic cuts to domestic and sexual violence service providers across the country. The Crime Victims Fund provides the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants to state, territorial, and local agencies to provide direct services to victims of all types of time. VOCA supports almost 6,500 direct service providers, including domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers. In recent years, deposits to the CVF have reduced significantly, leading to a devastating $600 million cut in funding from FY23 to FY24. Decreased funding means service providers are forced to triage their services or close. Read our full news story here: https://loom.ly/KBVGuXE #DomesticViolence #SexualViolence #SaveVOCA

Did you know the Victims of Crime Act (#VOCA) supports millions of crime victims yearly? Since 2017, VOCA funding has provided capacity for Friendship Home to: ? Expand single-family shelters, confidential emergency shelter apartments for survivors and their children to find safety and healing ? Increase transitional housing opportunities, a bridge from emergency shelter to long term safety and stability ? Pilot survivor-leased Housing First response, supporting survivors in securing a new safe place to call home, and providing wrap around services But VOCA is in trouble. Deposits into the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) fluctuate annually. Now, the CVF balance is at a historic low. A low CVF balance causes devastating cuts to VOCA grants and endangers programs and survivors. The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act can help stabilize VOCA. https://lnkd.in/eZ-k73ux

Are you working towards a slave-free supply chain? Today is Anti-Slavery Day, a powerful reminder of the silent suffering endured by millions whose lives have been affected by slavery, and to re-affirm our commitment to combatting it from our supply chains. Victims have their liberty and independence taken away by criminals who seek to profiteer from using them as commodities in what they see as low risk high reward. According to STOP THE TRAFFIK, 49.6 million people are trapped in modern slavery today. Traffickers are making an estimated $500 billion in revenue annually, generating approximately $200,000 in profit per victim exploited for an associated likelihood of under $100 in risk of being fined, arrested or prosecuted (Avery Centre 2021). These are shocking statistics! We all need to maintain a public focus and reinvigorate our efforts to fight against modern slavery and human trafficking demanding transparency in our supply chains. #modernslavery #humanrights

In Pennsylvania, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton region has been identified as a hot spot for human trafficking, with Pennsylvania itself ranking ninth nationally for trafficking cases reported. There’s been a recent increase and it’s believed the reported numbers are even more due to the reluctance of victims to seek help out of fear and dependency on their traffickers. In order to address the rise, the Victims Resource Center has made efforts to enhance public awareness and collaborative efforts with local organizations such as treatment centers, homeless shelters, and other agencies to identify and support victims. However, challenges persist, such as a lack of dedicated safe places, victim blaming, and funding for support services. It’s essential to boost education and public awareness efforts as victims may not always recognize their own exploitation due to the manipulation and control of their traffickers.
