The ALF - Advanced Location Finder is a reliable help for horizontally distant laddering points and provides objective feedback as to whether laddering is possible with the selected stabilization and the necessary cage crew. In the operation shown here, a window on the second floor had to be reached at almost 16m.?Due to the parking lot and the hedge, the conventional method of determining the distance by walking to the object was not possible. The ALF was able to demonstrate its advantages particularly well in this environment. In a matter of seconds, the ALF determined the distance and indicated that the ladder point could be reached with the turntable ladder of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Ilmenau under the mentioned conditions. This is signaled by the green check mark on the display, so that the operator, after considering the conditions on site (reminder by the 360° symbol) such as ground, trees or other obstacles, was able to position the turntable ladder and the operation could proceed quickly and efficiently. ? ?? Many thanks to the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Ilmenau for the pictures. We wish you continued good and safe operations with the ALF. ? ?? Would you like to optimize your turntable ladder operations in your fire department? Then test the ALF free of charge and request a demo unit for your fire department.? Simply amazing. The operative word for how the Marine Corps is approaching forward deployed amphibious training in the western Pacific is "gingerly." From the article, the summation of the actions taken by the Marine Corps since the ACV rollovers in 2022 seems to be, "We bought what we bought. We're going to deploy it as-built. We're going to sharply constrain the operating conditions for the ACV to fair weather and calm seas and we'll see what it can do." No design modifications and no mention of the critical role of driver training that was the factor to which the Marine Corps attributed the rollovers in 2021 and 2022. The corrective action taken in the aftermath of the rollovers two years ago was to relieve from command Marines in Training Command and the operating forces. I've seen no mention of accountability back in Quantico in Combat Development Command or the acquisition program. The ACV program took a tentative first step in 2023 for a deployable ACV driver trainer but thet constraints imposed by the Marine Corps on the solicited solution only allowed for a 2-dof motion base for the driver and a simulation running on a laptop computer and laptop GPU. The capability of the selected solution is remarkable and extremely capable for the design boundaries that the government set out. Hardware constraints matter because a laptop GPU will often perform at ~60% of the desktop version of the same model (https://lnkd.in/eKtAmp2X) To date, there is still no published requirement or solicitation to industry from a high fidelity trainer that incorporates a 6-dof motion platform and an image generator with enough GPU bandwidth to provide very high quality 3D rendering. High quality graphics and high frame rates are necessary to create the critical synchronization between what the driver's eyes see and where his vestibular system tells him his body is moving. How does an ACAT 1 program get a Milestone C decision approval without a Learning Engineer or Instructional Systems Design specialist that insists that driver training simulation is a critical component of the weapons system and that it must be included in the Acquisition Program Baseline budget? When will Marine students at the Assault Amphibian School get training systems support that is in the same realm of quality as what Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) provides from Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) to student pilots at Pesancola, Kingsville, and other aviation training sites? Neither Congress nor ASN RD&A nor NAVAIR would ever allow an aircraft to be fielded without such a training capability. Perhaps that's because aircraft cost 10x what an ACV costs and ACVs don't fall out of the sky. However, we have tragic evidence that amphibious vehicles do roll over in heavy surf and on at least one occasion an amphibious assault vehicle sank with passengers inside. #marinecorps #acquisition #acv #training #simulation #safety

FYI: ".. a firefighting plane considered incomparable to anything else available..." It's been interesting listening to people talk about the super scoopers dumping thousands of liters of water on the fires in Palisades, California. Like a number of other hidden gems in California, the super scooper is Canadian. It only went back into production in 2023, now manufactured by De Havilland. "De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd., which acquired the rights to the aircraft in 2016, reached new agreements with European Union countries this year to provide 22 DHC-515 firefighter planes, the brand successor of the Canadair. The order will be the first time De Havilland makes these €50 million ($55 million) planes. While production won’t finish until the end of 2026 at the earliest, the EU is willing to wait for a firefighting plane considered incomparable to anything else available. https://lnkd.in/gwK9wf-j Bet you don't want a 25% tarrif on those marvels. I grew up watching them help put out fires. It's used all over the world these days. I'm sure it will be in production for decades going forward... as idiocy keeps ramping #climatechaos...

Avoiding disaster in small Marine Vessels Marine fires can be catastrophic, quickly causing significant damage to equipment, facilities, and the environment. Most small vessel fires start in engine rooms or electrical controls, which are often compact and obstructed, making firefighting challenging. To protect marine assets, more owners and operators are turning to advanced fire suppression systems. Expert naval architects now specify fire protection that meets space, weight, quality, cost, and low maintenance requirements. Stat-X? fire suppression systems excel in all these areas, making them the ideal solution for the demanding marine environment.. The United States Marine Corps is cautiously reintroducing its Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACVs) to the beaches of the Pacific, nearly two years after surf rollovers led to a suspension of their water operations. After facing operational challenges due to surf rollovers, the Marine Corps undertook a detailed hydrographic study to evaluate beach conditions before deploying the ACVs. This meticulous assessment was crucial for ensuring safe landings during the recent Exercise Ssang Yong 24 in South Korea. The exercise was a significant milestone, marking the ACV's first operational use in the region, with a stringent focus on conducting missions in low-wave environments to mitigate risks. During the exercise, Marines determined that there was a "negligible surf zone," which allowed for secure deployment of the ACVs. This careful and calculated approach followed a similar training event in the Philippines earlier this year, where data was collected to refine operational tactics and improve crew training. The Corps has also implemented a new training curriculum for ACV operators, ensuring they are well-prepared for the unique challenges of amphibious operations. The reintroduction of ACVs demonstrates the Marine Corps' commitment to enhancing its amphibious capabilities while learning valuable lessons from previous incidents. By adapting training programs and operational strategies based on past challenges, the Corps aims to transform the ACV into a reliable asset for future missions. This proactive stance not only enhances operational readiness but also underscores the Corps' dedication to safety and effectiveness in diverse environments. #Marines #AmphibiousCombatVehicle #MilitaryTraining #NationalSecurity #PacificOperations #DefenseInnovation #ExerciseSsangYong #SafetyFirst #MarineCorps #OperationalReadiness #MilitaryTechnology #LessonsLearned #HydrographicStudy #TrainingExcellence
