The AI/ML market is on a growth path that’s going “up and to the right” and shows no signs of slowing down. In the past twelve months, we’ve seen hundreds of billions committed by the Magnificent Seven, and chipmakers have been standing under this waterfall of capital with outstretched arms and buckets in both hands. Startups and established hardware companies alike are racing to bring “AI-centric” chips to market and for some, it’s like a gold rush. But for a few companies, the rise of AI represents an opportunity to make this transformative technology part of an ongoing legacy. This is why I like asking executives, “Are you building a company that will endure or is the endgame to build to sell?” Recently, I had the chance to explore this idea with Sanjay Gajendra from Astera Labs. For Sanjay and his co-founders Jitendra, and Casey, building an enduring company isn't just about capturing business success– it's about becoming ICONIC and leaving a lasting imprint on the industry. What struck me most was Sanjay's perspective on what being iconic means. He shared a vivid image of employees looking back decades from now with a smile, remembering their time at Astera as a high point in their careers. I can think of few visuals that do a better job of representing an enduring impact than that! I’m grateful to Sanjay for sharing his perspective and will continue to cheer for and support Astera in their mission to become iconic.
