What Jacob Collier's Audience Choir Could Teach Us About Fragmentation? Imagine a concert where the audience becomes the choir—hundreds of strangers, each singing a different note, creating something unexpectedly beautiful. If you’ve been at one of his concerts you know what I mean. In a world where audiences are more segmented than ever—spread across platforms, devices, and interests—Collier's approach offers a powerful lesson. Just as he embraces the uniqueness of every voice to create harmony, brands who learn to embrace the diversity of consumer touchpoints will create a more unified message. Today's successful advertising strategy isn’t about forcing everyone to sing the same tune though; it’s about recognizing the power of each unique “voice”—each channel, each consumer. It's about crafting a symphony where every part, no matter how different, contributes to a cohesive and compelling story. So, how can your brand make music in a fragmented market? By listening carefully to each voice, and finding ways to create harmony across the noise. Think of your next message as an audience choir coming together to create something lasting and memorable. https://lnkd.in/gDuzviUZ

Creating community one front yard at a time. In The Musicant Group's latest newsletter we explore the power and practice of applying placemaking to front yards and entryways, transforming them from mere doorways to places of community and connection. It boils down to two Golden Rules: 1) Do things YOU like to do in your own front yard - too often there is nothing to draw you out to your own yard. It's simple, but create reasons for you to want to be there. 2) Create Semi-Enclosures: balancing containment & permeability - the typical front yard, dominated by an expanse of grass, makes us feel exposed and on display, which makes us to feel uncomfortable. Too high of an enclosure blocks us from potential connections. The best path is to strike a balance of enclosure and openness. Learn more about how you can apply these principles and sign up for our newsletter at: https://lnkd.in/gHZttSjm #placemaking #knightcities #musicantgroup #frontyard #community #cre

Ah … Attribution ..: Sounds fine to me; does this mean our music and words will be in the AI opportunity though? Hmm - I’m trying to keep my music original as possible without being part of the AI system. Or is AI only for business use / music licensing area ? ?? Thoughts ? /-/ Attribution Share Becomes the New Market Share (Attribution share gets adopted: 50%) If “Attribution” becomes the music industry buzzword of 2025, then we will know there’s a more than 50% chance that labels and publishers will seize the AI opportunity and the benefits that can flow from an Attribution-based licensing future.
Here we go! Happy New Year friends! https://lnkd.in/enazNHT2

"Maybe it’s the cooler weather, the diminishing daylight, or the fact that we’ve sniffed so much nutmeg and cinnamon it’s infiltrated our brain. But in the fall, things tend to get weird. "From Maine to California, we not only carve pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns but we also turn them into boats and attempt to bob down rivers. We debate the existence of ghosts and sasquatches and use worms to predict the weather. We put our pups—and any other pets that will let us—in costumes, and grow our leg hairs out to resemble tarantulas. Or at least, some of us do. Anything goes at these fifteen wacky fall festivals, and that's the fun of it." This is a popular event in Maine: "The North American Wife Carrying Championship" Apparently the sport of wife carrying?began in Finland, sparked by a legend where a robber would steal both food and women from the towns he pillaged. Naturally, we have adopted this and turned it into an extreme sport. The 23rd Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship tasks competitors with carrying their significant others through a dry and muddy 278-yard obstacle course, either fireman-style (over the shoulder), piggyback, or the most popular: the Estonian Carry (flipped upside-down with legs around the runner’s shoulders). If you’re in it to win, it helps to have a partner with heft. The winning team scores the wife's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash. https://lnkd.in/eqym8NcM

The Future of Music Creation is Here — And It’s Surreal Today, I stumbled upon a startup that has been quietly revolutionizing music creation for over a year. It looks like Microsoft is gearing up to launch a similar product soon. These tools can generate full songs from just lyrics... or even a vague idea of lyrics paired with a genre. I’ve heard about people creating virtual artists and earning royalties through platforms, but I couldn’t fathom how accessible this has become. As someone who has spent countless hours trying to grasp music theory, composition, and genres, months in tools like Bitwig and other DAWs just to piece together a melody or a drum beat, it’s mind-blowing to see how effortless this process has become with AI. This technology forces you to pause and reflect on what makes music, the and life itself, meaningful. Personal connection, creativity, and the struggle to express something authentic have always been what I've thought of music. Yet, with a jumble of lyrics I wrote (inspired by the events of January 6, penned during a challenging time in my life), combined with a simple voice recording and some AI magic, I was able to create three complete songs each with dozens of variations spanning multiple genres. Choosing between them feels impossible. It’s a strange, thought-provoking experience. Will we still want to listen to someone else’s songs when anyone can create music that resonates so personally? Or is it just an illusion, and it takes years of musical education to break the spell? What it is? A blatant theft or the end of new ideas? If you’re curious, you can check out a selection of the results here: https://lnkd.in/g83H6BQi

The award for best paradigm-shifting community goes to... SOFTSIDE ?? founded by Erin Singleton Softside is providing a platform that connects music artists & creative communities via officially licensed, fan-designed merchandise partnerships - transforming how IP owners approach fan-made merch. Usually fan merch is ignored and at the very worst taken down by the powers that be due to IP infringements = disempowering, boooo ?? Softside provides a fundamental shift in perspective, by fostering inclusivity and empowering fans. Instead of calling out fan-made merch they are calling in a community of music artists that want to embrace their fans' creativity and making sure it's done in the "correct way". ?? ONE-WAY CONSUMERISM ? FACILITATING CONNECTION ? INCLUSIVITY ? MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT ? EMPOWERING & LEGITIMISING FANS A great example of the power associated with asking your fans to join you, not just buy from you. ? It's a win-win-win for fans, artists and the platform ? I ?? this BIG TIME. Can't wait to see how this platform grows ?? ---------------- ?? or ???? this to give Softside some ??
