New Year, New Goals, New Accountability ???? The other day, I was listening to BBC Radio One, and they were discussing whether we should replace the word "resolution" with "intention" for the New Year. Their reasoning? The word "resolution" supposedly carries negative connotations, especially if you don’t achieve what you’ve set out to do. Using "intention" was seen as a way to avoid feelings of shame or failure. Honestly, I didn’t agree at all. While I understand the importance of self-compassion, I think there’s value in accountability. If we don’t achieve something within our control, shouldn’t we reflect, take responsibility, and use it as a lesson to grow? ???? Life will always throw curveballs ???, and sometimes external factors make our goals unattainable, which is understandable. But when the outcome is in our hands, it’s important to own our failures and learn from them, rather than rebranding them to avoid discomfort. Growth doesn’t come from blame-shifting; it comes from resilience and taking action. ??? So, here’s to 2025 resolutions. Not intentions. Resolutions that push us to be better, take responsibility, and learn along the way. Let’s make it a year of accountability and progress! ????

Massive respect for call center agents who work through the holiday period and keep essential services connected at what can be very stressful times. Going above and beyond to help the vulnerable while also taking calls from less understanding customers whose problems aren't as serious. All those who have ever worn a headset through this period, in whatever industry, will no doubt have some great stories share. The next time you are with someone you know who has or is working as a call center agent, ask them about their best and worst call, take interest and you will probably have a different way to engage with agents in your own future calls. Most importantly, thank them for doing what they do, in sometimes the most pressurised environments where they have to balance customer needs with tight call targets within the business.
