Fashion, Politics, and Union Power: A Unique Intersection The story of Unionwear.com (asi/73775) in Newark, NJ, is a testament to the powerful intersection of politics, fashion, and labor rights. This unionized manufacturer has not only provided high-quality products like "MAGA" hats but also stood as a symbol of American labor and craftsmanship. While political divisions run deep in the U.S., Unionwear continues to serve clients across the political spectrum—showing that the American workforce and its values transcend partisan lines. Unionwear.com has become an emblem of how industries like fashion are influenced by political and economic landscapes. It's fascinating to see how a single company can produce products tied to such a polarizing symbol while championing fair wages, workers’ rights, and sustainable practices. In an era of division, Unionwear (asi/73775) stands as a reminder that American labor is at the heart of progress. https://lnkd.in/ePr8BsT9 ??? Very Interesting. Data always has a lot of stories. A large percentage, 70% of manufacturing data come from ERP systems. What stories can you data tell? Is all your data on a single platform? How easily can you tell your story? If you are a manufacturer and leverage #Salesforce, reach out and learn more about a #manufacturing #ERP on the platform #rootstock Rootstock Software
Our "local paper", the New York Times, just published an excellent, in depth look at Unionwear, our employees, and our niche markets written by Charles McFarlane. I couldn't be more proud of our team! https://lnkd.in/g2YCGb55

When it comes to engaging the plus-size market, the cautionary tale of Old Navy's #BODEQUALITY launch is often brought up among retail leaders. But a recent class action lawsuit sheds light on the fact that it wasn't the consumer at all. The math never made sense: 67 percent of US women are size 14 and above, yet only 12 percent of apparel is made in plus sizes. This class action suit claims that Gap misled investors by failing to disclose Old Navy's inventory setbacks with the launch. As a CEO of The Gorgeous Agency, a company that helps brands connect with the plus-size consumer through body inclusivity, I can tell you that this failure was a massive setback for inclusive sizing. Our specialty is creating pathways to the plus-size customer journey, which has unfortunately been full of trauma. Old Navy was yet another misstep on that pathway. In addition to getting the nuts and bolts of inventory and business model in the right place, it's important to address weight stigma within organizations so that the plus-size consumer can regain trust and become a loyal fan. Let's work together to make the plus-size market feel seen, heard, and most importantly, included. #plussize #bodyinclusivity #inclusivesizing #retail #Oldnavy

The May issue of Drapers is out now, and it's not to be missed. Our cover story this month is a nod to all things Americana, and how businesses can make a splash in the land of opportunity. Plus we look at how a certain Cowboy Carter put the trend in the spotlight. Inside the issue, our exclusive research into racist discrimination within the fashion retail industry shows that little has changed in the three years since we started the investigation. We examine what businesses can do to take action to reduce inequality. We also examine how businesses can support staff on the front line of our industry against the retail crimewave. Plus: The Drapers Interview with Brandalley UK, the fashion stock market, a deep dive into John Lewis & Partners, our secret shopper visits Bicester Village, the spring/summer 25 trade show calendar and much, much more. Garments tell so much, as we know. At the end of the #presidential debate between Donald #Trump and #Kamala Harris, The New York Times’s Vanessa Friedman noted that, with his blue suit, Trump was disappearing into the blue background and was almost invisible, save for his red tie. Kamala Harris, her #Democratic opponent in the race to the White House, on the contrary, stood out in her black pant suit - not from #Chloé, one of her favorite brands - and white shirt with a lavaliere. The entire story of the 90 minute debate was contained in that image. One candidate had shrunk, the other one shone and solidified her stature of presidential material. An election can be lost on a bad suit. A young John Kennedy who knew about the power of the new medium of television, had chosen a blue suit for his televised debate with Richard Nixon, on September 26, 1960, which made him stand out. #Americans who had listened to the debate on the radio felt Nixon had won, those who had watched it on their Tv, thought #Kennedy had had the upper hand. Throughout her very short presidential run, which started less than 2 months ago, on July 21, exactly 30 minutes after Joe Biden announced he would be dropping out of the presidential race, Kamala Harris has made sure her #outfits projected an air of #authority, that she was ready for the highest office in the land. This is a country that created a #scandal over the fact that Barack #Obama had shown up at a White House press conference wearing a tan suit instead of a dark blue one ! As the potentially first female president, the first women of color and first Asian American to be in the Oval Office, every detail about her would be dissected, examined, analyzed and memed. One could not conceive of a thicker glass ceiling to break. This was certainly not the time for any sartorial creativity. The pantsuit would do. Kamala’s campaign might be electrifying, her choice of #garment is very tame. She has been wearing the same pantsuits in blue, black, burgundy, beige over the course of the past 7 weeks, along with a white blouse and Manolo Blahnik heels. And it has served her well. The issue in this moment in American history is not to make a #fashion statement. The purpose of Kamala’s suit is to help Americans imagine that the first woman of color can be president. It’s what an American non profit foundation called ??The imagination barrier??. When you close your eyes, what is the image of the person in the White House. Americans have never had a female president and a black one on top. So, the image that comes to them when their eyes are close are of an older white male, because this is what they have known for the past 250 years. Those #pantsuits are Kamala’s weapon that could project her in the Oval Office. We’ll never emphasize enough the power of clothes. #Linkedin #Voices #sonamkhetan #KamalaHarris #Power #Clothes #actionthroughfashion #WhiteHouse

Are you talking about extraction and cultural appropriation in your industry? One of the first lessons you get as a business student or entrepreneur is know the competitions/threats to your business. What happens when the underrepresented communities in your industry seek to enter it? How are you treating them as a threat/competition when they want a seat at the table? Under represented and marginalised communities, especially black women are often the very creators, originators, producers and customers of the raw material/product/idea/service global economies rely on while actively being prevented access to the table. How are navigating this in your industry, and in education? #ShoutOut to Kayla A. When the first set of distributors refused to sell to me, I sat for about 17 seconds in complete annoyance. When the second set of distributors refused to sell to me, I rolled my eyes. But by the 12th rejection, I knew I had to approach this issue differently & I wasn't allowing anyone else to discriminate and reject me FOR $5 BRAIDING HAIR. Because.....what?!? Black Women own less than 3% of the Black Beauty Supply industry & that number has reduced in the past few years because of the barriers to profitability. The long and short is that when they go low, I smile & nod. Hi, I'm Kaylah Joseph & I've created, funded and launched my own distribution company for braiding hair. I don't know if I'm the first to do it, but I know I couldn't find a Black Owned Braiding Hair Distributor and was tired of being rejected by non-Black owned businesses who earn 97% of their revenue from Black Women. How about we work with what we have and divest the billions we spend on hair weaves and wigs and put it towards other sources of self economics and empowerment? Just a thought. I mean I love the hustle but why continue to perpetuate something that's not beneficial to us as a people whatsoever! Braid what you have... and that goes for nails, lashes, wigs, BBL's you name it... go back to self care and let's stop trying to alacart black women into something that a majority of them aren't naturally. That would be more empowering for us. Just a thought... I don't think it does us any favors to replace the majority non-black fake hair sector with a black owners. That would be like replacing the plantation with black massa's. Maybe try switching it up and selling natural black hair products that condition or treat your natural hair that would be dope. But just because a pseudo-white racist system has profited off of our psychological brainwashing into thinking that what we have naturally isn't good enough, it doesn't mean we should work to push them out of the way just to take their seat! Let's strive for true Black African People Liberation across the Dispora of the world were ever they may be and native peoples everywhere! You are strong enough as you are!
